We were treated like low class citizens, with snarky passive aggressive comments and eye rolls, mostly by the staff at the reception and running the restaurant. I understand that a group of a film crew is not the usual target group for their fancy taste, but we too paid the extremely high prices for the rooms, followed the dresscode and behaved politely. They accepted a booking with a dog with a surcharge of 18 euros per night, but you can't really take the dog with you anywhere in the hotel except the room, and they were very rude about it, every day. The maisonettes are nice (and I bet also updated after a lot of review comments here about outdated interior), but there were many stains in the carpet and moisture damage on the walls. Many items are broken, like our towel hanger and night lamps that detach from the wall as you touch them. Very little space to hang anything. The dinner restaurant is pretentious, extremely high prices with great ideas for the dishes but prepared without attention: schnitzel was the greasiest and wettest I've ever had, and came with a tiny side of overcooked potatoes and a 26 euro price tag. When we ate in a bigger group, some didn't get bread, most didn't get the spreads that usually come with it, some dishes lacked ingredients. I bet they were understaffed. Not a children friendly place, no splashing or playing allowed in the pool. Cleaning staff was extremely kind and friendly. We liked the breakfast, though most of the fresh and warm stuff was out, no matter what time you went to eat. I must give kudos to the owner lady, who made me a little breakfast takeaway bag when I told I'd be leaving for work before the breakfast started, that was very kind. The garage was a really good idea, worked, there was space. Location of the place is great. Spa looks really nice and clean.

Hotel Rauter in Matrei are systematically trying to cheat guests with children, several similar cases are confirmed. I made a booking through Booking.com including my 10 year’s old daughter and myself. We arrived a late evening in February at the hotel and they ”welcomed” us by claiming my daughter was not included in the confirmed price and if I didn’t pay the double price, we would not get any room. I showed them the confirmation from Booking.com clearly stating my daughter was included. The hotel informed me the agreement was between me and Booking.com, and had nothing to do with them. It’s a disgrace how the hotel is trying to cheat tourists of Matrei and giving the village a bad reputation. Shame on you for your greed and arrogance, I really hope you don’t treat your employees in the same way. Many thanks to Hotel Goldried who welcomed us in such a nice and professional way and turned our week into a success.
