We really enjoyed our stay here during San Diego Comic Con. The rooms were bigger (for 2) and comfortable. The room was also ready early which started things off great. The bar at the top of the hotel was nice for an evening drink or snack (though a little pricey). The service was great, helpful and always around, if needed. Though, a little farther to the convention center for comic con goers, the trolley is a 5~ min walk and super convenient. There are a few places nearby for a quick grab and go breakfast (open early) that were delicious. Not only that, it is also a 10 min walk to Little Italy which was great for food options. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.
Hotel Republic San Diego is a beautifully designed hotel with a stylish, modern aesthetic that makes a great first impression. The cleanliness throughout the property was top-notch, from the lobby to the rooms, making for a comfortable stay. We opted for the breakfast package, and it was well worth it. The food options were delicious, with big portion sizes that kept us satisfied well into the afternoon. Using the Marriott app to communicate with the hotel was convenient, though responsiveness varied. Some requests were handled quickly and efficiently, while others—like my request for an extra towel and blanket—took longer than expected. While we enjoyed many aspects of our stay, there were a couple of drawbacks: - Parking is very pricey, and valet is the only option, which adds a significant cost. - On Saturday night, there was a movie on the patio, and unfortunately, the windows were not soundproof. The noise was disruptive until the movie ended at 10:30 PM. Overall, a great stay with a trendy vibe and excellent food, but a few improvements could make it even better.
One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. From the moment we checked in, things felt off. They advertise a $25 food and beverage credit, but it’s completely misleading. That “credit” is just part of a mandatory $25 destination fee they charge no matter what. So whether you use it or not, you’re still paying for it. It’s deceptive. Valet parking is another rip-off—$65 a night, when there’s a garage across the street for just $15 overnight. It’s clear they’re overcharging wherever they can. The food itself wasn’t bad, but like everything else here, it was way overpriced. Definitely not worth what you’re paying. The hotel is also in a terrible location—right next to a county jail, with a constant heavy police presence and a large homeless population right outside the building. It didn’t feel safe or comfortable. Rooms are small, outdated, and the showers are old. Nothing about the stay felt like it matched the price point or expectations. I would not recommend this hotel at all. There are much better, safer, and more honest options nearby.
