Hotel Restaurant Waldsägmühle

We have been in a hotel two times. In 2021 and in 2023. Both times stay was enjoyable and relaxing. The hotel has super good spa area and amazing herb sauna. They are always friendly and turn sauna on earlier on request, even at hard times like current year. They also have free snacks in a spa area and do not try to charge you for a water or coffee, which I HIGHLY appreciate. Unfortunately especially during our second visit a lot of things were also of a less quality than expected. Cleaning was very underwhelming, tea and coffee in a room was never refilled, spa towels never replaced as well as minibar items. Breakfast had only one option - scramble with unknown ingredients. At least hard boiled eggs for people who would like to avoid oil or milk would be good to have. Restaurant food also was kinda rather less quality than a year ago. Overall a stay was still very pleasant, but we were less impressed than at our first visit. I recommend a hotel as a value for money option, especially if you are looking for a relaxing spa first of all.

Nice location, but no cell phone reception which is very annoying when when your banking app needs an SMS code for activation. The rooms (we had a junior suite) are pretty small with a tiny minimalistic bathroom. There is no complimentary water in the room, but there is a mini bar. You have to ask for slippers at the reception which closes at 10 PM so if you arrive late, it's a good idea to ask for them in advance. The Spa and gardens are just perfect, but I would have liked more towels, since the one you get for Spa use gets drenched pretty fast and there's no way to get a new one like in other Spas. Food is good, but it definitely doesn't reflect the price (my dry aged beef was probably (if at all) dry aged for a day. The staff always have a smile on their face, but although I did ask at check-in for table decorated with birthday wishes and I reconfirmed it the day before, I was unpleasantly surprised that nothing was done. When I complained about it at the reception, they told me there was a table prepared for that, but they apparently got the tables wrong, which is let's call it "silly", since you get an assigned table for the duration of you're stay. All I'm saying is, don't get your hopes up for a perfect stay.

Unfortunately the hotel did not give a great weekend as planned. It was very disappointing that on arrival at the hotel the room was dirty, namely the bed had dog hair and the sheet had holes in it. All this spoiled the first impression of the room. At dinner on the first day, the staff worked very slowly, forgot ordered drinks and did not tell us what was on the buffet. It took a long time to wait for wine on the bar. On the pool there is a smoking area and lie on a sunbed is very uncomfortable when people are smoking nearby. The only thing we liked was the quiet location. The staff is rather untidy looking which is a strange feeling for a 4 star hotel
