Thermas Aqua Librea is an amazing oasis and retreat! The staff are welcoming and friendly, the spaces and rooms are beautiful and clean, and everything is wonderful! I visited while walking the Camino Via de la Plata starting from Cadiz and after 20 days on the trail wish that I had spent more time here. The candle lit thermal baths are a MUST – especially for weary and tired pilgrims! The atmosphere is great and the internal courtyard is beautiful. This is a hidden gem on the Camino route that caps off the walk along Roman Roads, through Merida and its Roman History as well as the trek that visits a Roman Dam. Visitors here are even have the option to dress in authentic Roman clothes! Give yourself a treat and stay here! This is the sort of establishment that provides unique memories that will last a lifetime! A huge thank you to the staff at Thermas Aqua Libera! It was especially wonderful that one young lady on the staff could help with English translation!
The most amazing experience!!! This is a must visit place, even if it is not on the major tourist routes. We visited the place for dinner because it had been recommended by another person (they don't have a big internet presence). Let me start. Tried to book on the web but ended up calling them to make things easier. Although it is a hotel, it also caters for visitors. They also offer the use of a purpose made reproduction of a roman thermae. We booked the thermae for private use for 1 hour before dinner and it was extremely relaxing, aside from very romantic for those of you who enjoy romantic moments even after 30 years of marriage. After the bath we were offered to dress in a roman attire for our dinner (they provide the dresses). We looked amazing in roman costumes!!! We had dinner in a little temple structure in the patio and it was unreal. For groups of 4 or more they have a 'triclinium' were you can enjoy the full roman experience laying on a couch and eating while reclining using your left elbow for support and your right hand for eating, but i have been told that it takes some practice... We had the 'degustacion' menu, completely based on recovered roman recipes that have been revived at this place. Excellent food although the flavors of a couple of 'tapas' were not too sophisticated since it is old roman recipes.
A very unique place to stay on the camino. It was great fun immersing ourselves into Roman life, with the baths, a massage, abd dressing up Roman-style for dinner. Room was very spacious.
