This is not a 3.8 star hotel by American standards anyway. We stayed here for an international soccer tournament in the Spring. Hotel was filled with kids, coaches and some families. The staff seemed so inconvenienced by any request. They could have done such a better job making it an enjoyable experience while having kids there for a week. They promote their common spaces but the indoor pool wasn't open and it was too cold to swim outdoors, the fitness center is VERY limited. No free weights and the treadmill was broken and you have to ask for a key to use it. The outdoor bar/snacks was never open and never sold food. They would only open an hour or so each day due to their staff 'resting'. The other outdoor play spaces are rundown. The wifi wasn't great but we managed to get by. Rooms are small, and beds are cheap twin beds. Not much storage and no additional seating aside from the bed in rooms. Very small mounted TV's. They did a good job keeping up with the volume of food for the group at the buffet and there were sometimes good dinner options for the kids but in general the food was very bland. Lastly the owners are cheap, lots of upgrades needed and they turn off the electricity at random times after 5 minutes of use. You have to insert the room key to power the room/lights. But there were times at night that I was in the shower or bathroom and lights would just go off even with the key inserted. I was in the shower and it turned off 3 times, I had to keep getting out to re-insert the key and eventually just used my cell phone light to finish. I would not recommend staying here although proximity to Roses is good there are plenty of other hotels in town.

There shouldn't be any talk of a 4-star hotel or 150 euros per night here. Do not trust the 4-stars in this case, at the San Carlo you can expect, among other things, old, unkempt, simple rooms, ugly and impractical furnishings and torn shower curtains in bathrooms that are reminiscent of a camping site. The staff is used to the constant criticism due to the bad circumstances in the hotel and reacts very unfriendly to complaints, otherwise service is not very pleasent. One has the impression that they are not that enthusiastic about the management there either. The common areas of the hotel are also completely outdated, slightly shabby and unattractive. The food at the buffet is also of very low quality, barely edible but certainly not to be enjoyed with pleasure. The pool area was certainly perfectly fine in 1975, today it is also outdated and shabby.
