Hotel San Donato Bologna Centro

A very pleasant place, it is rare when a hotel is better in reality than in the pictures. The hotel is nicely renovated while keeping its original style. The rooms and especially the bathroom are spacious and clean, the bed comfortable. The breakfast is excellent. The rooftop terrace is awesome, you should check it out. Great location in the city center, while in a relatively quiet street. However, I have to remove one star because the soundproofing of the rooms is not great.

This hotel is an elegant old building on a small piazza with many cafes and restaurants nearby. Our 2nd floor room was nicely appointed and looked onto the piazza. The common areas and our room were kept very clean. Here's the reason for the average review. We arrived on Sunday around lunchtime to find out there was no hot water. We were told that the boiler had broken and the manager was out "finding parts". No notices were posted and while the person at the front desk offered no apologies. By the end of the day, we were essentially told there was still no much hot water and 'it's Sunday so no one will come to repair it". On Monday morning, the person at the front desk at least apologized and the boiler was fixed by dinnertime on Monday. This is an expensive hotel and while we understand it may be hard to get people on the weekend, we don't believe we should have had a day and a half without hot water. They didn't even offer a free breakfast or anything other discount as a gesture of good will for the inconvenience. The attitude of the person on Sunday night was also very bad. I won't stay here again.

Constant noise and horrible service. The hotel in itself is quite nice and the room was comfortable with all the amendments you would expect. On top of that the location is great. Unfortunately they are renovating and gave us a room right next to the construction. We were woken at 7:00 by drilling, hammering and the sound of angle grinders. When I later told the receptionist about this there was no apology, no understanding and also the blatant lie the noise came from their neighbors. After I told her that I saw the construction happening with my own eyes I was answered they only start at 8 (which is again a lie) and that they are allowed by government to do so (which is probably true but still nothing short of a middle finger into the face of a paying customer who seeks some culture and relaxation). I resigned, told her good bye and did not even get a good bye back. How horribly customer unfriendly! Didn’t even bother to tell them about another noise source in our room - they obviously wouldn’t want to hear it anyway.
