Tucked away just off the main streets of downtown Isla Mujeres, Hotel Secreto is a true hidden gem. This secure, boutique hotel offers card-only access and a peaceful retreat from the island’s hustle and bustle. We stayed in a first-floor room with a private patio overlooking the pool and a partial view of the ocean. It featured a table, chairs, and a cozy lounging bed—the perfect spot to unwind. The pool was a nightly favorite for us, with just the right temperature to relax under the stars while listening to the gentle sound of ocean waves. We were even lucky enough to spot sea turtles nesting along the shore—truly unforgettable! The staff were friendly and helpful when approached, with small touches like opening the front door for us daily so we didn’t need to pull out our key card. The pool and rooftop bar attendants were also very kind and welcoming. While the hotel is quiet and restful, two small notes: the air fresheners used throughout are a bit strong, and the room could benefit from a ceiling or portable fan. That said, this hotel is an incredible value. The property is kept exclusive—only guests and rooftop bar patrons are allowed—which made it feel private and serene. We’ll absolutely be back when staying on the north end of the island. Highly recommended for couples or solo travelers seeking tranquility and charm.
Our stay at Hotel Secreto was absolutely magical!!! The view from our room—overlooking the serene pool and the sparkling ocean—was both breathtaking and one-of-a-kind. Every member of the staff, from the front desk to the rooftop team to housekeeping, was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, making us feel right at home. The location couldn’t be more ideal—peacefully tucked away, yet just a five-minute walk from the vibrant Main Street, the stunning Playa Norte, and only ten minutes from the ferry. It’s the perfect balance of quiet luxury and convenience. One of the highlights was enjoying sunset on the rooftop with live music on Friday evening—it was pure bliss. I’m convinced I had the best calamari of my life up there! What made our stay even more special was discovering the deeper family connections behind the hotel. The same family runs the nearby fresh-caught seafood restaurant Blue Ballyhoo and Keen M Charters, which offers unforgettable fishing and whale shark tours. We got to experience it all, and it truly enriched our trip. We also rented bikes, paddle boards, and golf cart from Hotel Secreto which made the trip so fun!!!
We stayed at this hotel for two nights, and overall, we had a great experience. The staff were kind and helpful, the rooftop live music was a nice touch, and the cozy atmosphere made our stay even more enjoyable. We also appreciated the friendly guests and the relaxing vibe throughout the hotel. However, one thing I wouldn’t recommend is booking activities through the hotel. In terms of both price and convenience, it didn’t really work out for us. We booked a whale shark tour through the hotel and later wanted to check the photos taken during the activity. When we asked the hotel staff about them, communication with the third-party agent was quite poor (to be fair, the hotel acknowledged this and apologized). We asked about the photo pricing in advance, but they never gave us a clear answer. Later, the tour company and the agent came to the hotel, but they didn’t even show us the photos—they just Airdropped them to us and told us to pay $75. They said it was because they brought the photos to the hotel, which didn’t make much sense. We were already frustrated with the situation and told them, “We’ll just delete the photos—we don’t want them anymore.” But they said that wasn’t possible and then offered to lower the price. Honestly, it felt ridiculous. We later found out from other travelers who did the same tour that they received their photos by email and paid a different price. So, while I’d definitely recommend the hotel itself, I wouldn’t recommend booking tours through them. When we asked other guests, most said they had booked directly through tour companies, and there are many other options available nearby.
