Hotel Silken Ciudad Gijon

I stayed at Hotel Silken Ciudad Gijón for two days during my visit to Gijón, and it was a truly pleasant experience. The hotel is located very close to the railway station, which made it extremely convenient for travel and exploring the city. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, offering a relaxing space after a day of sightseeing. What really stood out to me, however, was the quality of the food. The meals served at the hotel restaurant were excellent, and the breakfast was simply incredible – a great variety, fresh ingredients, and something for every taste. Overall, I loved my stay in Gijón, and Hotel Silken Ciudad played a big part in making it memorable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-located hotel with great food and service.

Great hotel. Only big issue was the AC is centrally controlled and doesn’t work. The staff can only turn it on. I know this as I stayed with my colleagues and we all experienced the same issue. I spoke to the staff and they claimed they got a repair man in to fix the issue. So i had no AC at night and was very hot. I didn’t sleep well during my stay at the hotel. This is my only complaint but the fact I couldn’t sleep is not good. I did request a fan, but was not provided with one. I feel if you are going to pay £100s a night for a hotel room, you should have working AC. Apart from that, service was good, rooms are nice and you can watch YouTube on the TVs. Bathroom was clean. The breakfast was very delicious and varied. The staff were kind to us during our stay and packed us breakfast when we had to leave early in the mornings. The bar and restaurant were also very nice. Pools were enjoyable too.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Laura at the front desk, who made our check-in experience outstanding. We had originally booked a deluxe room, but to our delight, Laura kindly upgraded us to a deluxe suite. The room was modern, clean, and beautifully designed. The highlight was definitely the bathroom, which featured a luxurious whirlpool tub — a fantastic surprise after a long day of travel. We arrived late in the evening around 10:00 PM and decided to have dinner at the hotel’s Gala Café/restaurant. While the café area was lively and full, the restaurant section was nearly empty, so we chose to sit there. After a short wait, a lady with chin-length brown hair and bangs approached and greeted us in Spanish. We responded politely in Spanish but then asked if it would be possible to continue in English. Unfortunately, her reaction was very disappointing — she rolled her eyes, shook her head, and walked away, clearly annoyed. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome, so we decided to leave the restaurant immediately. We are assuming that this lady was the restaurant manager rather than a waitress, which made the situation even more surprising and disappointing. Thankfully, we found an excellent alternative just across the street — Asador Parrilla Bovino — where we enjoyed delicious burgers and a much friendlier atmosphere. Because of this experience, we chose not to dine at the hotel again during our stay. Upon checkout, we informed reception that we had consumed three beers from the minibar, but they kindly told us there was no charge, which we assume was a gesture of goodwill after the restaurant incident. Overall, apart from the disappointing restaurant experience, the hotel itself, the room, and the service at reception were very good.
