We loved our stay at Hotel Simi. The location is convenient to the train station, the gornergrat train, and all that the village offers. It’s also very quiet, so there’s no risk that nightlife will interfere with sleep. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast is outstanding. The quality of the food is very high with a nice selection of breads, jams, juices, cheeses (the usual assortment included a Swiss mountain cheese, Gorgonzola, and an aged goat), European style yogurts, Swiss muesli, fresh fruit, and some made to order options like soft boiled or fried eggs and crêpes. The ski locker room was kept nice and tidy and we really appreciated the heated boots in the morning. Note that you can rent lockers at Bayard by the train station if you don’t like walking in boots carrying skis. The afternoon sweet treat (a rotation of cakes and fruit crumbles) and coffee was another nice touch. Finally, I want to make the point that the entire hotel is kept in impeccable condition. 4.7
In April 2025, we stayed at Hotel Simi. It was one of the worst hospitality experiences of our life. We were trapped in Zermatt due to a severe storm and power outages. The staff was extremely unhelpful and rude. Even at check in, we had booked a room that had 3 person capacity and they made us pay extra for the 3rd person. Once we were stranded, they claimed they were "letting us stay the night" as we had nowhere else to go. The next morning, they asked us to "settle our account" with them, asking for payment for the previous night and the following night, when they had no electricity, hot water, food, etc. They provided no information on anything. They claimed they didn't know but the hotel next door had a lot more information and helped us despite that we were not staying at that hotel. We were able to get out of Zermatt, no thanks to the staff of Hotel Simi, only with the help of others staying at the hotel or other hotels nearby. They offered no help and were extremely rude and condescending. At some point, I said "we don't want to be here like this, we have no choice" and the staff said "we don't want you here either". We ended up incurring over $1000 in charges with our extra nights at Hotel Simi and they never provided any assistance to us.
A storm caused power outage knocked out communications and transport throughout Zermatt, all the trains and access to the town were closed. We are a group of 15 people with 5 children. We provided proof of the cancellations and begged for any kind of help—pick‑up details, local advice, anything. Nothing came. To our surprise when we requested a refund all we received was radio silence. The uncertainty cost us time, a huge amount of money since we had to find accommodation in another town. We have yet to receive a full refund from the hotel and we have been scammed and receive no answer. The staff is rude and uncaring, the manager does not exist. Zermatt is a beautiful town and hotel Simi is a stain in it giving the town and the locals a bad reputation. They are irresponsible, inhumane and scammers. Give us our FULL refund.
