We stayed at Hotel Soleado for a week in June while visiting Alghero. The hotel’s best feature is its location, right on the seafront with easy access to Maria Pia beach and just a pleasant walk to the old town. We had booked a Double Room with Balcony and Sea View, which I would definitely recommend. These front-facing rooms are spacious with lovely views, and while the decor is simple and slightly old-fashioned, the bed was very comfortable. At first glance, the room felt a bit empty. My only suggestion for improvement would be to have coffee or tea facilities in the room, which would be a nice way to start the day. Perhaps if you book breakfast this isn’t an issue, but we opted for room only, so I can’t comment on the breakfast. The hotel restaurant was a pleasant surprise. It’s actually popular with locals and set around the pool area in the evenings, serving good quality food and open until late. This was perfect for us as we arrived late with Ryanair (around 21:30 at Fertilia Airport) and didn’t feel like going into town. We had a nice pizza and a carafe of the house Vermentino wine on our first night. Overall, Hotel Soleado is a simple but convenient base for exploring Alghero. Don’t expect luxury, but if you choose a sea-facing room, you’ll enjoy the views and the easy location.

Overall not great even considering it is a budget hotel. Rooms were outdated, some broken and heavily worn furniture, also rock hard beds. The bathroom was something else, easily 30 years since last given even an ounce of love. The bathroom was clean at least but beyond outdated and worn. The rooms were decently clean, although they only changed the top sheet during cleaning, they left the bottom sheet on which you sleep unchanged, same with the towels, honestly did except more from house keeping. Breakfast is what you’d except in this price range, decent selection. The hotel restaurant had alright food, no complaints but very bad service. Unfriendly, kept us waiting for ages and didn’t seem very interested in serving at all. Lastly the pool area was well kept although it was very small. This was no surprise as it was as advertised when booking. What was somewhat surprising was the number is sun loungers. Maybe 10 in total for the whole hotel, didn’t end up spending any time at the pool due to all loungers being spoken for either by guests themselves or called for by someone’s towel. The only redeeming quality of this hotel is its location.

Stayed here last night, and wish I hadn’t! Dull, tired hotel that internally looks and smells like a hospital with an overpowering smell of disinfectant in the communal areas and rooms. Ants on the floor and flies at the windows. AC not working. Rusty plastic chairs on the terrace underneath a very rusty and dangerous-looking AC unit. No umbrella to shade from the sun and definitely no frills in this 4* hotel (that rating cannot be correct). Decor in dining area resembles a Ryanair livery in shocking blue and yellow. Staff rude and unprofessional. Swimming pool is functional, only four shaded sun bed pairs which were claimed by sun bed hoggers for the day, sun shades missing from the other areas. Tacky plastic furniture, no greenery just concrete and the noisy road. All in all, the worst experience during our stay in Sardinia. One night was too long!
