Hotel & Spa Alfândega da Fé

It was a bucket list thing... I'm so glad we came. Very relaxing. I was reading negative reviews, and they seemed old. A lot has changed for the better, And some pictures are no longer true, although I agree on some minor maintenance points. These have not made a negative impression on our stay. Maybe other rooms.. not ours on level 1. We liked everything. Because we wanted to relax, and we did out of the crazy season. Weather was perfect, and that helped on the outside area Very kind staff. Good restaurant. Back in the rooms, We just think that the toilet should have more privacy... it's all transparent glass and opening to the bedroom. It's a style. I know. It's not my liking. I recommend the hotel a shade for the parking. All added we enjoyed it very much

I feel bad writing this review. This is probably one of the best located hotels in Portugal. So much potential. Could easily be top 5 in Iberia. But unfortunately, all the potential is wasted. The hotel was not well maintained, it runs on minimum services and feels abandoned sometimes. It's just obscene to charge the kind of prices they charge to offer the services they do.

I am still in shock! Not sure how this place can say it has 4 stars - I am sure if a surprise inspection took place, this would be changed immediately! This place must have been beautiful at some point as the views are breathtaking, but don't be fooled by the infinity pool, because this does not exist (and I am sure it will take quite a while to return). The rooms are old and smell the minute you get in - there is a strong smell of sewage that comes from the bathroom. The furniture is old and there is an overall smell of dust. At night, there is a constant noise coming from the old ventilation system. The indoors swimming pool was super cold and the chemical smell was so strong that I could not stop coughing and had to leave. The staff were not welcoming at all and there are no instructions on small things like the breakfast buffet. It is a shame as it's none of their fault that the place is falling apart and stopped in time. Very limited breakfast choices. We had a two-night stay booked using an "Odisseias" voucher, gifted to us on our wedding, but we left after one sleepless night.
