Hotel Sur Bacalar

Really nice place, small but rooms were nice and staff very pleasant. For the cost the breakfast was small and basic but great location

I just had a lovely stay @ the Hotel Sur Bacalar. It is a small boutique hotel. The rooms were very clean and adjacent to the hotel is their restaurant Finisterre. The food there was amazing!! They play some great music and serve some excellent Italian food. The Hotel was so nice and quiet which is what we really liked. However you may need to keep that fan going to drown out the roosters in the morning! Or ear plugs would work. Better than loud music though. Would definitely recommend.

Dog policy of “not allowing dog to stay in room alone” was not mentioned until we arrived to check in, even though I messaged hotel prior to arrival about bringing our dog. There was nothing mentioned online in their dog policy about this rule. Because of this “rule”, I was not able to participate in a pre-booked tour of the lagoon (did not allow dogs on tour) and lost $75 CAN, not to mention missing out on an amazing experience with my husband and friends. I tried to reason with the hotel staff and booking.com, no go. My dog is extremely well behaved, she is a certified therapy dog and used for dog training purposes by myself, a certified dog trainer. There was no manager to speak to and booking.com sided with the hotel, because I signed a document when we arrived at 3 pm to check in (it was too late to go anywhere else and too late to cancel my tour ticket). My trip to Bacalar was ruined due to this hotel’s dog rule that was not communicated until we arrived. We followed all the hotels policies andrules and because of this, I was not able to attend a boat tour of Bacalar lagoon with my family and friends, the highlight of our two-day trip.
