Hotel Vance is a modern and well-equipped hotel located right near downtown Portland, making it very convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. Its central location is surprisingly quiet, making it suitable for both leisure and business travelers. The rooms are very clean with modern furnishings and a youthful design that matches the energetic vibe of the city. Basic amenities like a coffee maker, mini fridge, and work desk are fully provided. However, a small note for first-time visitors to hotels in the U.S.: like many other places, Hotel Vance does not provide in-room slippers, nor does it offer toothbrushes or toothpaste, so be sure to bring your own personal items if you don’t want to purchase them separately. Overall, it’s a great place to stay — especially if you want clean, convenient, and centrally located accommodations to make the most of your time exploring Portland.
Clean, quiet. Beautiful decor. The 2nd floor lounge area was a nice hangout spot to people watch and sit quietly, taking in the environment. The hotel staff members were friendly and welcoming. I will be staying here again when I return to Portland. I come often and have stayed at several different hotels in order to lock in on my favorites. This was a beautiful experience, and I will be returning!
I stayed here from July 4 to July 8, 2025. Despite reserving a 2 Queen Bed Room two months in advance for a trip with two friends, the hotel downgraded us to a 1 King Bed Room on the day of arrival — without prior meaningful notice. While traveling, we were told we had no option but to accept this change or cancel the reservation. The hotel suggested we buy an air mattress ourselves and promised reimbursement. We purchased a twin air mattress for $108.19 (tax included), but only $99.44 (tax exclude) was deducted from our bill. We were assured we’d be moved to a 2-bed room on July 5. Following front desk's instructions, we packed up all of our belongings and returned to the front desk in 15 minutes to complete the room change — only to be informed that the available room had a maintenance issue, and we could not be moved after all. Not only was the promised room not held for us as agreed, but we were also put through the inconvenience of packing and unpacking again, only to stay in the same uncleaned room. We had asked about this room switch multiple times between July 4 and July 5, and each time we were told that a 2-bed room would be kept for us. This promise was clearly not honored. We were reluctantly offered two separate King rooms, disrupting our plans to stay together. Additionally, five breakfast vouchers were issued for just one day (July 6th), which we (three people) couldn’t fully use. We have already filed a complaint through Marriott customer service, which was forwarded to the hotel. However, the hotel addressed me incorrectly as “Mr.” instead of “Ms.” in their response, suggesting a lack of care in handling the matter. They stated that the issue would be reviewed with their leadership team, but it has now been a month without any follow-up or resolution.
