We recently stayed at Hotel Vergilius Billia for three nights as a family of four, and we had a very positive experience. The hotel is excellent, especially for families, as the rooms are large and comfortably fit four beds. We appreciated the air conditioning, and the rooms were consistently neat and clean throughout our stay. The staff were incredibly welcoming and informative, always ready to assist with a smile. The hotel's location is a major plus, being within close walking distance to the Central Station, which made getting around very convenient. We also enjoyed exploring the area, which has a lot of choices for leather shops on the same and neighboring small roads. The only minor downside was the breakfast, which was the same every day. Also, while the location is convenient, the immediate area can feel a bit rough, so it's wise to be careful during dark hours. Overall, we highly recommend Hotel Vergilius Billia for its spacious, clean rooms, friendly staff, and excellent proximity to the train station.
We got two rooms, spent 3 nights with my family of 4 at this hotel which definitely is not a 4 star. The rooms are not a true depiction of the internet photos and to say that our stay was unpleasant is putting it mildly. The standard room looked like it was from the 1980’s. When I complained to the guy at the front desk who I believe was called Claude he said that I could leave and that my complaints were threatening. Stunned at his bizarre lack of customer service and unwilling to face any issue with the local authorities, I retreated. My 18 year pushed the issue and we were assigned a room closer to the girls not without management trying to extort additional funds. After taking a shower the first night the room flooded because of improper drainage which may account for the moldy smell. We all got sick when we came back home with respiratory problems. In addition, the hotel was in a shady neighborhood and we actually witnessed two pickpocketing incidents during our stay. The reviews should be regarded as gold, as it is intended to help other guests from having a less than ideal stay without malicious intent. Avoid this establishment and choose an alternate place with much better reviews.
Hazardous, Negligent, and Deceptive – Avoid at All Costs This hotel made us seriously ill. Within 48 hours of staying in a damp, mold-infested room, both my sister and I developed acute bronchitis. The air in the room was soaked in mildew and it had a pungent, dank, off putting smell. The bathroom had serious plumbing issues—water flooded the floor every time we used it, creating a constant slipping hazard. Staff were dismissive, unhelpful, and sometimes outright rude. The area outside felt unsafe—we witnessed muggings, which staff casually called “normal.” Our formal complaint was met with a vague response from “the manager”—no name, no title, no accountability. Instead of an apology or partial refund, we were offered a "special" hypothetical discount on a future stay at the very hotel that made us sick. We are international travelers where a return is very costly and most likely not feasible at least in the very near future. This hotel failed us in every way: health, safety, customer service, and integrity. Travelers, be warned—do not stay here. Update: The owner's response only confirms what I experienced—there is no real accountability or responsible manager in charge. Instead of addressing the issues, you deflect and dismiss, which speaks volumes about the way this property is run. Please avoid!!
