I decided to bring my grandmother home after almost two months of staying in Villa Nacalua, because I found her in dramatic conditions: eyes half-closed, sticky face, slow movements, completely absent, as if in a comatose state. She had just recovered from a pelvic fracture which had now healed, but despite an obvious cognitive decline, she was still reactive, complaining, expressing annoyance and discomfort. After weeks in the facility she had become dull, sedated, unrecognizable. We seriously feared he was dying. The day after returning home, my grandmother had a very high fever, sudden and initially inexplicable. We had to administer Tachipirina and then an antibiotic, suspecting inflammation due to stress or pharmacological suspension. His body was reacting violently to something deep and systemic. In the following days, strong agitation appeared. The initial tremors were no longer present, but everything indicated a crisis of withdrawal from psychotropic drugs. Having thoroughly studied the topic of addictions, I clearly recognized every sign. I therefore carefully read the leaflets of the drugs that were administered to her regularly: • Haldol (haloperidol) • Brintellix (vortioxetine) • and other similar sedatives or neuroleptics I found the same symptoms he was experiencing listed: rigidity, slowing down, apathy, lack of reaction, tremors, blank stare. Effects known as drug-induced parkinsonism, too often underestimated or hidden. Despite the courtesy of the staff, I cannot remain silent about my profound disappointment. My grandmother was not accompanied with care. It was turned off to be easier to manage. Asylums no longer exist in name alone. In many RSAs they survive in the form of drugs given lightly, to contain rather than to help. I express my total contempt for this system, fueled by the interests of pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals who carry out a business on the backs of the weakest. And unfortunately we are not an isolated case. I read the testimony of a man who saw his mother reduced to "a zombie", tied to a chair, until she died, in this very same facility. I write with pain but with clarity. If you too see a family member changing so quickly, ask yourself if it is really the illness's fault... Or if it's the fault of what he was given. With the idea that his life already had a deadline set by someone else. But that's not how you honor life. And that's not how you accompany a person towards the end.

We were not aware of the "fame" of this hospice before that moment and in September 2024 we decided to entrust our father suffering from Alzheimer's to the "care" of Villa Nacalua and its staff managed by the director Vera Falone. Dad stayed at the facility for just under ten days, days in which we NEVER had any news, the nurses kept calling us because they had no idea what the planned medical therapy was and if we even tried to show up at the facility we were invited to leave in a bad way. Extremely worried, we decide to take him home and what we find in front of us is a 40kg zombie covered in bruises who is no longer able to speak. Needless to say, all his personal effects were never returned, much less the deposit which by contract should have been re-credited... Obviously our lawyer is worrying about everything but the question today is: "Why if everyone knows about the degradation that reigns in this place, is it still possible for these scoundrels to profit and harm such a weak category?" I hope that those responsible will take action soon to close this sewer and those who are holding its strings.
