Beautiful hotel with views of the surrounding valleys and nearby proximity to Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. FYI - it is more of a formal hotel stay despite the rural location and roughly half the rooms do not have views of the valley.
We stayed 4 nights here in early September. While we were very excited about our stay based on the stellar reviews and gorgeous photos, we found the entire experience to be a complete disappointment - and certainly not what one expects from a 4-star hotel in western Europe. The high point of our stay was Andrea's very warm welcome and excellent service at reception. Everything went downhill after that. Room: was infested with several annoying flies upon check-in, and lacked many basic amenities (including tissues and wash cloths). Towels were thin and threadbare. Walls were paper-thin, and we could hear constant noise from our neighbors on both sides. The bed was very comfortable, but this high point didn't quite make up for the hotel's many shortcomings. Restaurant: while the breakfast buffet was perfectly acceptable, dinner (food and service) was absolutely abysmal. Not sure how or why the restaurant can possibly call itself "top-rated". On our first night in the main dining room, we ordered the short rib. Most of the fat was not rendered, so we were served about 1 oz of adequately cooked meat and about 10 oz of pure fat. The cod was chewy, and perplexingly served atop what I can only describe as a bed of canned tomato soup. For dessert, the cheesecake tasted like a thawed frozen treat from the grocery store, and the rice pudding was little more than rice soaking in a vat of cream / whole milk. We ate 2 other dinners in the bar, and the food (croquetas, soup, anchovies) tasted like reheated prepared food from a nearby grocery store. Service was brusque and disinterested in both the restaurant and bar.
If you book through a service such as Booking.com and you have a negative experience at their hotel, they will mark your reservation as canceled so you can not write a review on the website! They do not have air conditioning. It's a poorly working fan that they claim will get the room temperature to 9 degrees, even though we were both sweating in the room the entire night. The motion sensor light in the bathroom is abhorrent. Also, if you are a motorcycle rider, you will be stuck at the gate on a downward slope trying to leave the property because the gate will not open for you.
