Hôtel Le Donjon Coeur de la Cité Médiévale

You can’t ask for a better location inside the city walls of Carcassonne. The staff at the hotel are fantastic. It can get noisy if concerts are going on in town. I loved by little terrace. Nice breakfast room.

The hotel is very well located and very reasonably priced compared to Hotel de la Cite. The room is tired, but comfortable. They have a lovely garden and it was possible to sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine or whatever. We had a beautiful view of the ramparts from our room. The room was warm at times and the only way to cool was to open the window. Then it could be cold and there was no heating. The bed was quite comfortable.

What a sorry experience! Perhaps we expected too much, as the location of the hotel is superb right in the middle of the beautiful medieval city. We stayed here for 2 nights September 19 - 21. We received an email asking to let them know if we needed parking at $24 a night. This included a shuttle to and from the hotel from the parking area and luggage handling. We confirmed. Upon arrival we were told we had to walk and the luggage would be brought over. The same happened on the return. We booked a "classic room." What a surprise to find out this room was not in the hotel, but in an annex. The entrance to the annex is so dark at night that one needs a flashlight to be able to open the door. The room itself has just enough space for the double bed. There is one window with a few on a filthy shaft only. We did not receive any form of room service/maintenance during the two days we were there. The comment at the reception was: " What do you expect, you booked a classic room!"
