Högers Hotel und Restaurant

Went on a Sunday afternoon with no reservation for "Kaffee und Kuchen" Beautiful location and lovely place to spend a few hours. the conservatory is just beautiful. coffee and cake were wonderful with a great selection of cakes. Very friendly staff. We eill be going again.

We came by chance, as my mother lives at Melle and we were fed up with the Dutch four stars (lots of food, lowest quality) four stars hotel there. Bad Essen? Never heard of! Oher Fachwerkhäuser? Please not! we thought... But, still on our way, we were already surprised by the beautiful woods all around. In this small spa everything was quiet, friendly and deeply relaxing. For our daughter they had the biggest and most amazing playground we have ever seen. A small fountain in the middle of the idyllic square in the historical part was her second fun place. The hotel is placed right at this square in a (partly) historical building (1920?). Felt like Wilhelm Meister at his Gasthaus. The staff is incredibly friendly (with maybe one exception, typically Westfalian ..). Rooms nice and modern, though not very big. Very relaxing (quiet) sauna. The breakfast with regional products is incredibly good .. and you get strong Kaffee in Kannen (c.e. = pot)! In the evening, you might dine at the restaurant, again with regional products and some Italian influence (Orecchiette! Non scotte!) . It would be hard to get better food in the entire region. Between breakfast and diner, take a walk in the woods all around!

Expected better. Located in a quiet little village, quite nice for elderly folks, which are very obviously the main clientele of this hotel. Not as nice for young folks looking for something to do. The next big city is a 30-40 minute drive away. The room looks modern and nice overall. Downsides are: - you have to carry around a key instead of it being an electronical lock - the bed‘s mattress wasn‘t comfortable - the shower was lacking any real pressure, felt like turning the water on only half way. At breakfast they did not disappoint in the beginning, with the friendly staff also accommodating extra wishes. That did not get me much, when on one day the fruit salad was a little moldy. That should and hopefully will not happen again! Dinner in the hotel was excellent, with the appetizer, main dish and dessert all being exceedingly tasty!
