Simply the best! I have no clue what these other reviews are talking about. This place is absolutely wonderful!! The entire customer facing staff speaks pretty good English. Breakfast and dinner are included, and the food is delicious. The rooms are cozy - sure, some are close to the train but the train doesn’t run past 9 pm and the first train doesn't arrive until 6.30am-ish. If you are a light sleeper or like to sleep in, you can call ahead and request a room away from the train, and they will do their best to accommodate you. I was met at the train station as promised and received assistance with my bags. They provide bottled water every day of your stay. Rooms were cozy and clean. Bathrooms and showers were also wonderful. Hot showers and towel warmers. Tea time had yummy snacks and was very relaxing. We booked our tour of Machu Picchu through the resort, and our guide, Eric, was AMAZING!!!! Honestly, the worst thing about this place is hearing the privilege and entitlement that comes out of some people's mouths. You are in their country. Just be courtesy and respectful. I could not have asked for a better experience.
This is simply one of the most magical hotels. Embedded in the tropical forest at the edge of town, it feels like you are living in your own version of Tarzan or Jungle Book. The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed. The real fireplaces add to the magic so you can truly unplug. Walking around the property the paths are flanked by small water flows, plants and birds that make you simply inhale and appreciate the beauty. That said, you pay A LOT to stay here and so my 4 stars reflects the small things such as: - attention to detail isn’t quite there in the cleaning. We had a plate of old food sit in our room for two straight days - staff is super friendly but not going out of the way to make you feel welcome. Many times you feel like you are inconveniencing them with your requests (from bar service to breakfast) - front desk communication isn’t the best. Everything all worked out for us BUT it was at several times us crossing our fingers and hoping (our bags showed up at the train station - yey)! I can’t help but wonder if maybe these details aren’t focused on as you don’t get an opportunity to really tip/add to your room. Breakfast and dinner were included so you don’t get a bill and I wonder if this takes away the incentive? We brought cash and it helped but honestly in this category it should be just more polished. Incredible place but room for improvement to make it world class. Will love to return one day.
Nice rooms with comfortable beds. Our suite had an outdoor patio with a sofa, mineral water pool and outdoor shower. Bathroom was large and had a towel warmer that was handy for drying clothes. Pros: Housekeeping did a great job with keeping our room spotless. Nature tour was amazing and took about 1 1/2 hours. Pool bartender was attentive. Great location. Breakfast was good and with a nice selection. Lunch was delicious although limited. Great lunch staff. Cons: Met the hotel staff at the train station but they didn’t offer to help carry our luggage (uphill to the hotel with stairs). Staff doesn’t communicate well. Breakfast was ordered night before for 6:15am as we had a 7am train for 7 hour hike. Didn’t arrive do we had to get coffee and a snack at the park entrance. Restaurant manager told us that we can get postage and mail postcards at the front desk but they don’t. Turndown service showed up twice out of 4 nights and when they did, they didn’t toss out the toilet paper and garbage can. Only ate dinner the first night as it was like cafeteria food (undercooked risotto and chicken breast was an overcooked ball of dry meat with skin on the outside).
