I never leave bad reviews, but people should be warned. I’ve stayed here with my family 3 times in the last year. Last summer it was great. It’s gone so downhill since then. The service is nonexistent. Literally, there’s barely anyone around to help with anything and the ones that are there are temps, as we were told. They might have a problem with the AC system as the room was stuck at 69 degrees constantly, regardless of what we set the temp to. It seemed humid and smelly in the rooms. They used to have frequent shuttles between the resorts, but they are much less available so there was a lot of waiting around. Also, there’s zero upkeep. The palm trees around the pool have seeds and bugs constantly falling. It’s simple, trim the trees every few months. It’s not that expensive. I literally cannot believe what they charge for these rooms considering the lack of service and upkeep. We won’t be back.
The location is beautiful, and the food was good, but the service made our stay stressful instead of relaxing. Housekeeping was minimal, with only the bed made and towels replaced daily—no real cleaning. The beach chair policy was confusing, overly strict, and handled unprofessionally. As a parent traveling with a baby and a special needs child, I experienced rude and dismissive behavior from staff, including a manager, and even overheard negative comments about me afterward. There was a clear lack of management presence, with staff few and far between, leaving issues unresolved. The pool had no steps or ADA-compliant access, which is concerning and difficult to understand how this is legal. For the price we paid, the service and guest experience should have matched, and it did not.
We were so excited to have our summer vacation at The Jekyll Ocean Club. The place is a weird mix of luxury offerings without much of a management presence running the place. It seems like low budget service wrapped in a high end facade. The pool was lovely but had an oily film on the surface of it each day. The towels ran out often without much oversight who was coming in and out of the hotel area and the pool. Both our room and areas of the hotel needed attention and things were broken or not tended to. The restaurant was mediocre at best and very expensive. We enjoyed our cocktails and the beach is very nice for a long walk or run. The beds were fantastic and the rooms themselves were roomy. We were glad to visit Jekyll and will continue our southern adventures elsewhere in the future
