Tailong Hotel was adequate. It is located right at the south end of Tienanmen Avenue. It is supposed to be non-smoking, but still there was a smell of smoke throughout the hotel. I stayed there twice at either end of a guided trip. The first time I was on the 3rd floor, north side, and the room was nicer; the second room was on the 5th floor, south side, and it was more like 2 stars. The most disconcerting thing was the lack of assistance from the hotel staff. The hotel staff had said the concierge would assist me to get a cab to the airport. On my departure day, they suddenly said they couldn't help me because it was raining. I ended up going outside in the middle of a very wet and busy intersection to hail a cab. Lousy send off.
A/C doesn't work in rooms, rooms are moldy (see picture) and smoky. The WiFi is impossible to get on. Many rooms do not have working hot water. Beds are hard as rocks. Staff does not speak English. The breakfast is terrible, it's located down the street (not even in the hotel). Easily the worst hotel I stayed at in China.
Don't book this hotel no matter what. Your budget will fall short whether it is from being overcharged for the room as you were misled to not notice the 15% service charge, quoted an english price for the scammy shopping tours which you are obliged to pay tip or qioted 3 x the price of a public taxi to be taken to the airport. The appalling service and room conditions are not worth the perceived savings on this budget hotel. My holiday was tainted by the entire experience here.
