Room was huge with amazing view! Hotel is quite big so things are far apart from each other! The pool was great. A short 10-15 mins from restaurants.
To start it off, we are a European couple who came to Japan for a bit more than three weeks to visit Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Okinawa. Our last week we spent in Okinawa to relax from the prior busy city trips. In the cities (Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto) we stayed in 2* - 3* hotels and we really had great experiences with these hotels, especially due to the very friendly, efficient, considerate and thoughtful Japanese Staff/people. Therefore we were really looking forward to the experience of a 5*star Japanese hotel. Maybe it was this expectation that made our stay at the Kafuu Resort so disappointing. Positives: - spacious room, big tv, bathtub, coffeemaker, kettle, fridge, nice view - If you choose eco cleaning, you get 1000 Yen Coupon - Big beds - Even though the restaurants within the hotel are way more expensive than the local restaurants, the food was very good Important negatives: - “Gym” is a strong word for a 15m2 room with exactly 4 workout stations (1 treadmill, 2 bikes) - No hotel shuttle bus service basically anywhere (except for maybe the golf court), you need a rental car. Therefore if you are from Europe you need an international drivers license or a translation of your license - Underwhelming breakfast selection - Poor coffee, from a coffee machine - Breakfast is officially from 7 - 10am, but staff started to remove items/ food from the breakfast buffet at 9:45 (while I was standing in front of it. lol) - During a windy night it was super loud in our room, because the wind was getting through the room’s balcony door as well as the entry door, so they are not properly/well isolated. Room door actually showed signs of rust or corrosion. We tried to use a towel so at least the door wouldn’t be bumping constantly. (Room: 501) - Only 2 slow elevators for about 200-300 rooms. Had to wait a couple of minutes every morning to get down to the first floor for breakfast, even though it was “off-season” and the hotel was not even half booked out. - seasonal pool only opens in April. Unfortunately booking.com didn’t specify when the season starts, we assumed it’s from march (our mistake). There is no indoor pool as well. - Average to poor service (It’s hard and a bit unfair to generalize like this, because also at Kafuu Resort there were a couple of people from the staff who were very friendly and helpful. However in general the service experience was disappointing) An anecdote from last day’s checkout: We booked an airport bus for 9:15 am to pick us up from the hotel. To have enough time we went for breakfast at around 8:15 am. When we got to the western breakfast another group was already waiting in line in front of us and we were told by the staff that we will have to wait for about 15-20 minutes to get seated. How can there not be enough seats for breakfast when a hotel is not even fully booked out - this seems very unprofessional and very unusual for a 5*star hotel. The staff then suggested to go to the Deli Cafe. Once we got to the Deli Cafe place at around 8:20 am, they told us that we would have to wait for about 20-30 minutes for breakfast. Why does the staff from the western breakfast suggest the Deli Cafe in the first place? We then headed for the reception to check out and ask for a refund for our breakfast tickets. A refund of the breakfast ticket was not possible, however, magically after talking to the reception staff the Deli Cafe was able to prepare our food faster than the estimated 20-30 minutes. I guess, unfortunately complaining helps, even though it’s not what you want to have to do during a vacation.. All in all it’s an average hotel at most with nice rooms and a nice view. If you compare Kafuu Resort to a European or US 5*star hotel, it can’t compete. If you are up for a nice beach vacation and don’t depend on the hotel, you can probably have a nice experience at Kafuu Resort. However, you could probably have that at basically any other place for half the price as well.
Firstly, I don‘t really understand how it‘s a 5 star hotel. The service is definitely not reflecting that. They do not approach you proactively for anything, like a 5 star hotel should. On the contrary, even when we would approach with a request, the staff (reception) seemed annoyed and like it‘s the most complicated thing, they seemed stressed out or something. Maybe that was due to the language barrier, because it was really hard to communicate. The room was nice, it had everything we needed and a beautiful view. And the location is nice, next to the beach, you just need to cross the street. However, other facilities were not up to the standard of the 5 star hotel. The most disappointing thing was, that the outdoor pool was closed (it reopens only starting from April). It wasn‘t specified on Booking.com. It only stated, that it‘s seasonal. And, they don‘t even have an indoor pool. Hotels around them did, even if they have less stars. We had to go to hotel Monterey nearby (a 4 star hotel), to purchase visitor day’s pass for 3000 yen and use their indoor pool. Another big disappointment - their gym. I can‘t even call it a gym, it‘s a tiny room with 1 treadmill and 2 bikes. And breakfast… It was very disappointing, everything was cold or lukewarm, not a lot of options. Not to mention, that you might have to wait in line. It should be till 10:00, but at 09:50 they already start to clean up and remove food from the buffet. Shout out to one of their servers, a french guy - he was really friendly and one of the only fluent english speakers there, who gave us nice tips and recommendations. And finally.. the activities. They offer several of those. We wanted to do the buggy ride, but the funny thing is that it‘s an hour away and they don‘t offer the transportation to the actual activity. What is that? How is that a 5 star hotel service? We asked about other activities - same response, no transportation anywhere. Basically, a rental car is a must. All in all, I do not recommend this hotel if the weather in Okinawa is not ideal. They don‘t have a good enough service/facilities to make your holiday of a quality one then. Of course, if the weather is amazing, you might not even care about these things, because you‘d be just enjoying the beach. Unfortunately, we were not able to do that. Oh and the hotel is full of kids. Just a lot of crying and shouting. Do not recommend if you want a chill, quiet and relaxing time.
