WOW! This was our first visit to the Beppu area and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Location is ideal, only a few minute walk to all the 'hells' - but the hotel itself was just the best. We traveled as a party of 8 (2 families) - and they were proactively fantastic in getting us neighboring rooms and seated together for meals. And the rooms - gorgeous and so very clean and thoughtful ammenities. We stayed in the half Japanese/half western rooms - and all i can say is we were spoiled - the service was fantastic and very accomadating to a couple of random kid requests. My kids (all 3, 7-13yo) loved it and were so sad we were only staying 2 nights. The japanese breakfast there is also a must and the public bath onsen was enjoyed by all. We loved it - looking forward to our next stay!

Had a luxurious Japanese-Western style room at 离馆, room was nice in terms of space, private indoor and outdoor onsen. The two meals were from fresh local ingredients. The roof top onsen was ahead of expectation, with nice views from day and night. Location was steps away from the sight seeing spots. The dining hall was moderately noisy, especially during dinner time. Maybe because the resort is quite family oriented and kids were not ruled out.

The hotel is a mix of 2 buildings that offer 2 different experiences which doesn’t seem to be reflected on the price. The Sora Kan building is older, with areas under construction and seemingly a lot less luxurious than the main building. Check in is with a machine rather than the warm welcome at the main building. The rooftop onsen is functional but lacking any ambiance or natural landscaping to enhance the atmosphere. The photos show mostly the main building so when booking without knowing this we felt misled, as the experience differs significantly from the main building. A warning for windy nights as the doors to the balcony were extremely loud and didn’t seal properly which disturbed us all night. The food and location were good but certainly the two areas should not be sold/advertised under the same name hotel.
