Kempinski Hotel Shenzhen, China: A wonderful hotel where I've been staying twice a year for the past 10 to 15 years during the Canton Fair. The rooms are excellent, and the staff is incredibly cooperative. The location is ideal, as it's part of a large shopping center with plenty of dining options, including an Indian restaurant. Once you stay here, you won't want to switch to another hotel—it's truly like a second home for me.
3.5 stars. This is a decent hotel but some things need to be improved and updated. The lobby is beautiful but the rooms are outdated, especially the carpets and curtains which need some major cleaning and dusting. 4+ stars for the food, although the advertised “all-day” room service terminates at 21:00 at the Four Seasons restaurant and 22:30 at the one on the 2nd floor. The bed was quite big and comfortable. If you are not Chinese, you will have a hard time ordering food or any other services, since a lot of these services require Alipay or WeChat, and most of the staff, despite being very nice, do not speak English. Location is very good and prices are fair. I definitely recommend to book a suite due to its spaciousness and benefits, such as the 16:00 late check out. The lounge is not so nice, so I never came back there after my first visit, they only offer the bare minimum in terms of drinks and almost no food. Finally, their spa attendant told me they only offered 2 basic massage services, despite having many other services listed in the booklet, and that the pool closed at 22:00, even though the official closing time is 23:00. In conclusion, it’s not a bad hotel, but too many things are not as advertised. The prices are ok but, for a 5-star hotel, Kempinski is not quite on the level of its competitors such as Langham and Marriott.
