Khaolak Merlin Resort

A genuinely beautiful hotel, set in a rain forest. The resort is small, quiet, peaceful, and every member of staff I came across - without exception - was friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help. Rooms were spotless, the pools and grounds well maintained, and there were plenty of sunbeds around the pools. If you fancied being closer to the beach, it's a 60 second walk from the waterfall pool, with ample sunbeds and a beach bar. If you want a resort with loud music, foam parties, yoga sessions in the pool, evening entertainment and noise, then this isn't the place for you. However, if you're looking for peace and tranquillity, where the only noise is the sound of waterfalls, and a place to unwind from the stresses of modern life, then this is absolutely the place to go. Would I return? Absolutely. To be fair, there was some noise from the renovations taking place, but this wasn't overly loud or intrusive, but it did start at 08.00 in the morning. I guess I was lucky with room placement, as depending where your room was, others may have found it louder. In fact, at least two huge trees were cut down one day, and then cut into logs, and I didn't hear a thing! The hotel made clear (via TUI several weeks before arrival) that there is ongoing works, and upon arrival, 2000 THB per room was offered as credit - I used this to part pay for a room upgrade to a swim-up room (right at the top of the waterfall, shared between just four rooms). I was happy with this.

This is the most beautiful resort I have ever stayed at (3 times now!) it is situated right on the beach with beautiful tropical jungle like scenery & split levels with everything you could ask for. It is so peaceful and serene, the staff are friendly and attentive and the wildlife is amazing. We got to see frogs, lizards, birds and insects every day. There is a small shopping centre at the bottom of the resort road with restaurants, convenience stores, massage places & more and the locals are friendly and helpful. I literally dream about the breakfast buffet whenever I leave & the restaurants have a great variety of food & drink. If you’re thinking about booking here, just do it! Such a stunning place to relax by the pool or the beach

It’s not enough that the hotel is already noisy with all the construction work going on. No, the workers also have to blast their music boxes so loudly that it’s impossible to relax. You can even hear the music outside the hotel. Really great… thanks for the “relaxation”… not! The hotel should at least step in and ban these music boxes — that would be the minimum response. According to the hotel, from July 1, 2025, we were not supposed to expect any more noise disturbances, as the remaining work would only involve installing prefabricated furniture in the rooms. Wrong… there is still hammering, welding, and so on.
