We stayed in a beautiful ground-level room with a private onsen quite a while ago. I was initially a bit confused by the onsen instructions but we figured it out. The meals were delicious and well crafted (seasonality, plating, etc.). We visited during spring/summer, and the meal was hydrangea themed - which happens to be my mother's favourite flower! We also loved the free flow beverages - although the selection could be more expansive. All staff were friendly, not all of them spoke English but we tried with our Japanese :) Kifunosato is the best onsen hotel we've stayed at (within the same price range), outstanding value for the price! If I visit Okayama again this will definitely be my onsen hotel of choice.

Artistic and luxe ryokan. One of my favourite experiences in Japan. When you walk in, all your senses are immediately greeted - the smell of tatami, woody fresh aromas, beautifully curated ikebana arrangements; art adorning the walls; masterfully crafted furniture and vases. To top it all off, the dinner and breakfast is the best i’ve had in Japan - curated to reflect seasonal ingredients, perfectly harmonious and balanced. Staff are also so hospitable and polite. Thank you!!

A very well appointed hotel with large rooms and ours also had a private tub onsen. Many private dining rooms. Herbal infused liqueurs which are complementary. Some English speaking staff that helps guests who cannot speak much Japanese. They were a great help and this was very considerate of the management. The public onsen was very nice. Food was excellent but I wished there were more sakes to choose from. The in room onsen could have hotter spring water. We had a very pleasant stay.
