HIDDEN GEM! Well worth the detour :) I stopped by to grab some botanical oils from the shop and decided to stay for lunch which was nothing short of perfect. None of the ingredients/dishes we’re ordinary, each unique and a beautiful adaptation honouring local botanicals

We decided on a day visit to Montague and stopped in for a relaxing lunch. The Scones with spicy plum jam had us ordering another round, and the fruit smoothie was refreshing with a lovely balanced flavor.

Mixed experience. Beautiful setting (although you hear the motorway from quite close), gorgeous cottages (the best was the wood-fired hot tub), great food (though dinner was quite pricey - and they brought things which we hand not ordered but were charged for in the end, so perhaps a little intransparent), friendly staff, a lot of attention to detail in many small things. On the other hand they accused us of having „stained & destroyed" a linen by having put a suitcase on the bed (is this forbidden? then they should at least put a sign up…) and made us pay 500 Rand - or 25 Euros - for it (initially they wanted 750), in quite an unfriendly manner that made us feel very uncomfortable & a bit „betrayed". We weren’t even sure if we had put a suitcase on the bed but they said „If you can’t fully exclude it, then you have to pay for it.". And that after having spent a total of more than 500 € there for merely 2 nights. Even stranger: they said they often had the same problem with the linen (I wonder if all those guests paid the 500 Rand like us or if they rather fought with them). But then the hotel should perhaps switch to another type of linen…? Or at least stop accusing their paying guests for breaking them. This event kind of spoilt the entire weekend for us, which would otherwise have been an amazing experience. But to be faithful accidentally we took the room key with us (and sent it back by courier), and they were quite chilled about it. But overall, after that experience with the linen, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
