Kohtao Heritage Hideaway

We arrived this morning at Koh Tao heritage hideaway. They immediately put us aside because they saw i was walking with crutches. The hotel apparently has a lot (really a lot) of difficult stairs and they apologized profusely for it being therefore not a good fit for me. Normally it would not have been a problem for me but due to unexpected medical reasons I was now also not looking forward to walking al those stairs. The receptionists immediately started calling another befriended hotel and booked another more convenient hotel for us. Never have i experienced this kind of amazing hospitality. They were so thoughtful and kind and they drove us for free to the other hotel. Although we did not stay at this hotel we could see it was absolutely beautiful and the service was top notch. Would highly recommend if you are fit enough to walk difficult stairs. Thank you for your kindness!

Romantic hideaway Right at the top of a rolling road out of town (far enough to silence the banging music of the town). Unless you're a fitness freak, don't attempt to walk it. I've done the Three Peaks Challenge (climbing the three highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours), and I struggled. But when you arrive, you will find a secluded private resort with beautiful detached apartments offering total privacy, great service, and very reasonable prices. The restaurant had just opened, and I believe it will get better, but it was fine. We had high expectations for Kohtao Heritage Hideaway, given its premium pricing, but unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. The room itself was absolutely beautiful, well-designed, and very comfortable. However, the overall experience was completely overshadowed by food poisoning that my girlfriend suffered after dining at the hotel’s restaurant on our first evening. Restaurant & Food Poisoning Incident Even during dinner, we noticed that the curry was of poor quality, and the meat contained fatty or non-muscle parts. While it appeared cooked, something was clearly off. The couple sitting next to us even returned one of their meals due to its bad quality. About three hours later, my girlfriend became severely ill, vomiting all night, while I also experienced stomach discomfort. The next morning, we informed the staff, but instead of addressing the issue professionally, they dismissed it as a food allergy, which is completely absurd. We had been traveling in Thailand for three weeks, eating at all kinds of places, including very simple local restaurants, and never had any issues before. Hotel Service & Cleanliness I also requested that the bathroom be cleaned due to my girlfriend’s sickness. The housekeeping staff was not thorough and only after I went to reception a second time to insist was the bathroom finally cleaned properly. Lack of Management & Customer Care We understand that food poisoning can happen anywhere, but in a high-end hotel catering to international guests, it simply shouldn’t. And if it does, the response should be open, professional, and solution-oriented. Instead, the staff seemed overwhelmed, undertrained, and unable to handle the situation appropriately. However, our concerns were not truly acknowledged, and the manager, who should have been involved, did not even make an effort to speak with us. Even after leaving the hotel, we never received any response from the manager regarding our situation. No apology, no explanation—just complete silence. This lack of accountability and guest care is unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. Final Thoughts If you are considering staying here, be aware that while the rooms are stunning, the service and crisis management are far below the standard expected for this price range. We have received far more caring and professional service in budget hostels than here.
