Kräuter & Spa Hotel Das Schäfer Adults only

In the middle of the mountains, in a tiny village, this hotel offers so much. I'll start with the most surprising aspect. The food. The dinner is a 6-course menu where you can choose from three entrees. The food is built around local, traditional themes and various wild and less commonly used herbs. Presentation is beautiful, what you would expect in a Michelin restaurant. The food is different everyday of the week. There is a cheese bar with local products. Of course I expected healthy, wellness food, but this was also foodie-food (see pics). The breakfast buffet included the option to order cooked to spec eggs with smoked bacon (or whatever you like). The Musli bar had 15 or so different grains, seeds and fruits. There was a wall of herbs for mixing your own hot drinks. Honeycomb, pine needle tip honey, homemade jam, an array of fresh baked rolls and breads. It was heaven every morning. The spa was also great. There is a warm pool indoors, with a connecting outdoor pool. The outdoor pool is much warmer. You swim through automatic double doors to get there. Outdoors is a corner with bubbles, like a giant Jacuzzi. Two of the three saunas have one entire wall made of glass. You can sit in the hay flower sauna (60-65 C) or the Finish sauna (85-90 C) and look out at the mountains. With your tourist tax, you get a free ride on most of the gondolas. The Sonntag Seilbahn was a great experience. There are unlimited options for hiking, massage, and learning about local biodiversity and history. We stayed there in early-mid June, just before the tourist season ramps up. The hotel is family owned and managed. Very friendly with a strong attention to detail.

We loved everything about our stay at Das Schäfer. The complete experience exceeded our expectations. The friendly, cordial and professional staff make you feel welcome the moment you enter the hotel. The rooms are bright, spacious and come with a generous balcony which sports mountain view. Foodies will not regret a stay here, as local and fresh products are the heart of both the excellent breakfast as well the sublime 6 course dinner. The no-kids formula along with the spa, nature and overall experience had made this one of the most relaxing holidays we've had in a long time.

The hotel is surrounded by beautiful Alps and in a short distance from skiing areas. The rooms are clean and spacious. The spa & pool area is a great add-on and allows guests to relax. The food is tasty and the choice is relatively good. Overall we had a very good impression, but there are things that could be improved. Since we could not extend our stay for a couple of hours (the hotel was fully booked) and we still wanted to ski a little, we simply asked whether it is possible to take a quick shower before we continue our journey. There was NO option...that was a little surprising as many hotels we visited so far always came up with a solution (remember that this hotel has a pool area with many showers :-)). Second thing is that we had a feeling that there may be a different treatment or customer-care related to your age. Being relatively young, we did notice different type of service being (or not) offered to different people. All in all, we do recommend this hotel, but we also think that people who work there should respond to the customers' expectations in a better way.
