Kyriad Marvelous Hotel Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

We received this hotel for free during a 20-hour layover, and the airport transfer was provided both ways. The staff did not speak English at all, but communication was easy with the help of a translator. The room was great for an overnight stay, offering much-needed rest and a warm shower. Additionally, there is a metro station nearby for easy access to the city. Max 15 minutes walk. The only confusing part was when a housekeeper unexpectedly knocked on our door and woke us up to bring a pillow—apparently, there was a mix-up with the rooms. Cause we didnt ask for that. I would choose this hotel again if I had another layover in Guangzhou.

We were brought here by Southern China airlines because we missed our connecting flight due to the delay, so we didn’t choose this hotel. But it was very nice indeed, much better than we expected of a free night for economy class. The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated, the beds were super comfy! There were small dental and vanity packs (very useful, considering we didn’t have our luggage!) There was a kettle in the room and bottled water. Breakfast was good, with lots of options. The only thing I really missed was a bathrobe in the room. We had a wonderful rest and were brought to the airport by the shuttle next morning.

Not so marvellous if you're a Z class China Southern passenger flying solo. They tell you that any random can be assigned to be your room mate for the night even though it's after midnight. They'll just let themselves in while you sleep. And the control for the slightly transparent shower blind is on the outside, so should your new friend be so inclined (or just clumsy) they could get a nice looksie while you wash your bits or drop some kids off at the pool. You didn't think this through very well guys... Stay at Metropolo instead. I got my own queen bed room there last trip. Here's hoping I wake up alone. Though the arrival of my new mate at 1am or thereafter is unlikely to be a surprise given they'll probably need to turn the light on to come in... Ridiculous. And on top of that there is a very loud bass rumble from the aircon. Management really let the hotel down. It's otherwise a really nice and modern room.
