We went to La Baronnie Bar for a drink with a very big group of friends and their families and we could not have been better welcomed: lovely staff, wonderfully patient owners and delicious cocktails in a stunning environment. I can't recommend this place enough!
This well-located 4-star hotel offers a charming selection of uniquely decorated rooms. Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet each morning. While there is no in-house restaurant for dinner, this isn't an issue as there are many excellent dining options nearby. The friendly staff are always welcoming, and for added relaxation, the spa can be reserved for a private, intimate experience.
Hotel Review: La Baronnie Hôtel & Spa – Teritoria, Île de Ré La Baronnie is undeniably one of the most beautiful and atmospheric places you can stay on Île de Ré. Nestled right in the heart of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the property exudes historic charm and elegance from the moment you arrive. The building itself is stunning – full of character, history, and lush surroundings that make you feel like you’re stepping into a refined private estate. Our room was tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, and maintained to a high standard. It’s clear that care and attention have been put into both the interiors and the overall environment of the hotel. Breakfast was generally good, with fresh options and a peaceful setting, though there were a few slip-ups – like finding a yogurt that had expired several days earlier. Small things, but they matter when the bar is set high. That said, the experience was slightly let down by inconsistent service and an overly rigid approach to rules. For example, when the bar was closed for the day, we asked if we could buy a drink and sit in the sun on the inner courtyard. We were told that this was not allowed – drinks had to be consumed in the back garden, which, on that particular day, was windy and cold. When we politely asked why, a staff member named Sara responded rather curtly and unprofessionally: “Because those are the rules.” At checkout, we had a simple question, but the same staff member took a phone call right in the middle of our conversation – without excusing herself or acknowledging the interruption. Moments like these chipped away at the otherwise luxurious feeling of the stay. In summary: La Baronnie is a truly exceptional place, with beautiful architecture, a perfect location, and a serene atmosphere. But for a hotel in this category and price range, service needs to be more consistent – and more attuned to guest experience. The potential is there for five-star memories, but the guest approach needs a thoughtful tune-up.
