The Casatorre in Ponticello was the highlight of our week long tour of north Italy. With a car or bike, there is plenty to do and see: a nearby mountain hike in the Logarghena, and medieval village and towns of Pontremolo, Filetto and borgi di Pontellicello. You must try the testaroli pasta which you will only find in the valley of Lunigiana. We'd also recommend Beba Frutta grocers for fresh produce and the Stainer chocolate factory, which makes bespoke Pesto chocolate, a love of labour by the factory owner. The Casatorre is a thousand years old. The tower used to be a storey taller. It was built as a defensive structure to keep residents safe from Germanic raiders from the north. What an incredible setting with centuries of history. We visited with the owners who have inherited this wonderful property through the generations for over 800 years. This home has been made into four apartments. Ours had two bedrooms & would be great for a whole family. Our friends slept in the tower next door! There is a swimming pool in the summer. This is not a new Marriott, so expect some quirks. It is charming to the max & a fabulous location from which to explore North Today!
