La Palma de LLanes

Looks great, but restaurant menu was expensive for mediocre food of limited choice, and car chargers either not working or reserved for a local friend of the staff who parks on it all night, despite no reservation for other clients possible. Patio view, when sitting, is of the side of a large building. The desk and bar staff were lovely - polite and helpful. A useful position just off the motorway for a stop on way to or from the ferry terminals.

We booked 4 nights at Hotel Palma de Llanes via Booking.com which was confirmed by email and on the app. When we turned up to check in we were advised that they did not have our booking and had no rooms. They referred us to a nearby hotel which miraculously had two rooms available and inexplicably our booking.com reservation was updated despite them having professed to having no knowledge of our booking in the first place. In short we feel deceived - it felt like they got a better booking for more days, bumped us to get the rooms and then arranged for us to go to a 3 star hotel. It has been a very upsetting interlude to our holiday.

Non-functioning aircon, the main reason I booked this hotel so I am not very pleased. This issue was raised on the day of arrival and the gentleman at the desk attempted to fix this with no luck, it seemed broken to him. Unfortunately as this was a ground floor room next to the (thankfully) empty pool it was not feasible to leave the windows open as it would require having the blinds fully open. The best I could get was a slight crack, without this the room would warm up to 25°C according to the AC thermometer. Couldn't even use the fan function in the unit! Unbearable for me as I am not used to sleeping in such heat especially with such stagnant air. At check out I raised this issue again as it was such a subpar experience but was told by the lady that AC is turned off until the summer. I've never heard of such an excuse nor have I experienced this once on my trip at other hotels all at lower rates and stars. No offer of compensation or discount was made so this may be normal for the property. I cannot recommend such a hotel that allows for such a policy if there is truth in the claim especially for being four stars. Room was clean so I have given an extra star in service for the housekeeping. The third party booking site thankfully provided a small partial refund to make up for the poor experience.
