Great golf course with two nines that arr distinct from each other. The first nine is quite open but around the turn you are faced with strategically placed creeks and hazards sometimes on both sides. This place is a joy to play and rewards good shots. Can't wait to return.
Lakes Resort, rated 4-1/2 stars: Nestling down in a bowl of forested hills, approx 5 kms in from the coast, this excellently designed, constructed and maintained new course is set to become a New Zealand favourite. A few of the early holes are lined by real estate, but that's how it will stay. The majority of the course is played away from the properties, sometimes alongside one of several small lakes, but best of all, parts of the back-nine meander through some very natural swamp-like wetlands.
Unfortunately this resort has fallen on hard times. The condition of the fairways and greens were awful with only a 75 % coverage of grass on either. Such a shame as the layout is great. I have heard it has been bought out so hopefully it will improve
