The rooms are nice: old wooden furniture, large rooms and marble bathrooms. However, squeaky floors and the hotel's proximity to the highway will keep you awake at night if you are a light sleeper like me. We came here to relax in the pool. PLEASE ASK if the pool will be open or if there is an event booked. When we arrived we were told that the pool was going to be closed early that same day for an event (at 5 pm), meaning we could only be there for a short time. We were promised that the pool would be open the next morning at 8am. Well, while it was open, they were cleaning the facilities from the previous day's event with a huge industrial vacuum cleaner, moving things around and mopping the floor. All in all, not a relaxing experience for us. People come here for that (including us) and it was very unfortunate that we were not told up front as we would have probably changed or canceled our reservation. Location: The building is beautiful. Old-fashioned art deco, lots of sofa rooms and charming furniture. The restaurant is also nice, a little pricey but overall nice. On the plus side, if you are staying at the hotel, they let you slip the line. The only problem is the location itself, on the highway (which means you hear cars in the background all the time), and you have to take the car to go anywhere.
Honestly, this hotel is a scandal from start to finish. Every time you order anything, boom – €7 tacked on as a room service fee. “Pet-friendly”? What a joke: €70 per night for a dog that’s not allowed anywhere except locked in your room, on a leash at all times. In other words, your pet is basically a prisoner while you “enjoy” your stay… or rather, endure it. The pool? Filthy. Never cleaned. Beer cans and bottles scattered around all night and still there the next morning. No one comes by, no one cleans. Two days in a row like this — you start to wonder if anyone actually works here. And to top it all off, the hotel is literally glued to a highway exit. We were told “you’ve arrived” while still on the ramp. Constant noise, depressing view, and the atmosphere of a gas station. Shameful. Avoid at all costs — even if it were free.
2 days before we arrived, we received a mail saying that the pool would close at 7.30pm instead of the usual 10pm, because of a cocktail party. When we arrived, the lady at the reception showed us our room and around the hotel, including the (super nice) swimming pool. However, when we were ready to go to the swimming pool, we noticed the door was closed. Going to the reception, the lady tells us that for a “pH” issue, the swimming pool is not accessible for the remainder of the day, and potentially the next day as well. We told her that we booked the hotel mostly for the pool, and that because it was not accessible we wanted a partial refund. She offered us free breakfast, but for a room at 230€ breakfast excluded, this did not seem like a lot. When we insisted, she phoned the owner, that said either it is the free breakfast, or we could leave (free of charge), which we definitely did. First, they probably knew about the cocktail party for much longer than 2 days, and our guess is that they did not tell us upfront to avoid cancellation. Second, when the swimming pool, which is the main attraction of this particular hotel, is not available, it only seems fair to get a decent compensation. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel after all. Disappointed at the way this was handled, as we would have been perfectly happy with even a 30% discount and some excuses.
