Las Nubes de Holbox

I almost didn’t stay at this hotel because of the bad reviews, but I’m glad I gave it a chance. Overall, it’s a beautiful hotel located right in front of the calmest and most stunning ocean view. The staff were very friendly and courteous, which made my stay even better. I absolutely loved the island! One thing to note—it is a bit far from downtown. If I come back, I might choose a hotel that's closer to the city center. We ended up walking a lot, which I didn’t really mind, but taking a taxi every day would definitely add up. That said, it was a wonderful stay overall, and I have no regrets :)

The service was amazing. All the staff were friendly and most were fluent in English, Spanish and I noticed a few spoke French. The room was great except the large crack in the floor, which made us fearful of using the in room jacuzzi. The tile in the bathroom was very dated and could use updating. Lime green with a darker green trim. The restaurant had great food, but the regular visits from raccoons and iguanas scared a lot of guests. The staff say it is their environment and we are visitors in it, so they let them wander.

Trying to be fair, but this is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Las Nubes de Holbox is old, dirty, and seriously understaffed. The photos on their website are extremely misleading, clearly taken many years ago. The hotel no longer looks anything like what is advertised. Their so-called beach club is not actually on the beach. You have to cross a swampy puddle that smells terrible and is full of mosquitoes. After that, you reach a rocky shore that has nothing to do with the stunning beaches Holbox is known for. I’ll leave photos for reference. What they call a beach club is just a few old, rusted, and filthy beds. Again, photos will speak for themselves. The room I was given looked nothing like the photos either. I found a giant scorpion inside my shoe and it almost stung me twice. I went to the front desk for help, not even knowing if I had been stung, and they had no emergency kit. Not even the basics. No one apologized or showed any concern. I understand we’re in the jungle, but the scorpion was in the room because clearly the space is not well maintained. The room was old, dusty, and forgotten, which is likely why the scorpion was even there. The next day, after all that, they just offered to switch my room and gave me a welcome cocktail as an apology. Unbelievable. There is not enough staff in this hotel. You always have to wait a long time at the restaurant, and service in general is very slow. The included breakfast is a joke. It’s eggs every day, tasteless, and honestly just bad food. Check the reviews on Google for “Restaurante Las Nubes” and you’ll see I’m not the only one who thinks so. We only managed to eat there twice, then decided to skip the included breakfast and pay elsewhere. That says everything. The hotel desperately needs to update its photos so guests can see they’re booking an old, poorly maintained property with one of the worst beach areas in Holbox. The island has amazing beaches, but this hotel is located on a swampy, rocky stretch that is far from what they show online. There are many other hotels in Holbox for the same or even better price that offer better food, service, beachfront, and overall quality. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will never return.
