Le Manoir Lacustre was the perfect spot for a reunion of friends from all over the world! We were 11 adults and 9 children all under the age of 8 coming from the UK, Europe, India and the US and there was plenty of room for all of us. The bedrooms were spacious and thoughtfully laid out with comfortable mattresses and pillows and plenty of linens for any temperature. The dining room was big enough for all 20 of us to eat and still have room for the kids to run around. Most of the time, we ate outside near the grill, where the huge table under a vine covered roof was the perfect atmosphere. The main kitchen is cramped but when retrofitting a house from 1648, you have to get creative. It had absolutely everything we needed to cook large meals every night. The stairs in the house are tricky for those with limited mobility (see note about retrofitting a centuries old house ;) ) but there are plenty of bedrooms on the ground floor. The grounds are well maintained and expansive. The pool was the perfect spot to relax and play. The swings and table tennis set were a nice touch. The kids were especially fond of visiting the chickens, which Veronique was gracious enough to let them interact and help collect eggs. The location is perfect. 15 minutes from the beach and daily market where we bought oysters and fish to bring back for lunch and dinner. There is a huge store with groceries and just about everything else within 20 minutes drive and a charming boulangerie a 10 minute walk. Soulac was worth the 25 minute drive for a nice town and a beautiful beach. Most notable is how welcoming and helpful Pascal and Veronique were. There was Sangria waiting for us when we arrived. They had a host of recommendations for us as families and would be able to make recommendations and arrangements for an older crowd as well. They were present but unobtrusive. It was a perfect stay and I could not recommend Le Manoir Lacustre more!
The Manoir is located brilliantly for wine (tasting) tours on the left bank (rive gauche) of the Bordeaux region. The warm welcome of the owners was great. Being a large group of spoiled middle-aged men, we had some unusual requests, but these were more than met by Paul and Veronique. Truly great service.
We stayed with Véronique and Pascal for a wine-themed vacation and were delighted with our stay. Welcoming and discreet, they have tastefully renovated this property, and we thoroughly enjoyed the various amenities (large spaces, shaded terrace, sunny pool). Special mention for the breakfast; it was a treat. In short, I highly recommend it!
