This was our final hotel stay in Bhutan. In summary, Le Meridien was a very nice hotel but the food (for us) was not as good as the other 2 hotels that we had stayed in Thimpu & Wangdue Pohdrang; probably because LM is catered more to the international tourists and hence, the flavors for the food too. We loved the local Bhutanese food esp their ezay & Phaksha Paa slowed cooked pork belly and LM’s offerings in this area fell short. We were somewhat disappointed that tea & coffee were not offered as part of the buffet dinner. We also felt the fruits served didn’t look as appetizing and hence we did not take any (they were somewhat “mushy” and bruised). The room decor was very nice with beautiful views of the mountains and Paro River. But the overall lighting was somewhat dim. Wished there was more flexibility in controlling the individual lights eg we were not able to control the lights for one side of the bed only and it was either switch or off for both sides simultaneously. Bathroom was spacious, but wished they had provided a flexible shower hose in the shower cubicle and not just a fixed overhead shower. But, we can’t reiterate enough about how nice the Bhutanese people are in general and of course the staff in LM. Our room actually came with high tea from 4-5pm; we didn’t know until much later. We missed it the first day as we checked in only past 5pm. Then on the 2nd day, we knew we will be late again, so we asked the reception if they could reserve something for us to sample. They initially said they could not, but later said they will make an exception for us! Unfortunately, we came back way too late and only in the midst of dinner time. We asked the waitress at the restaurant if they had left anything for us, she checked, came back and said there was none but could offer us coffee or tea of our choice to accompany our dinner; so very nice of her (esp since coffee or tea were not included in the buffet dinner). On our first breakfast morning, we had a casual chat with one of the waitress who then found out that we will be going to the Tiger’s Nest that morning. Without hesitation, she offered to pack for us a box of pastries for us to take on our hike to TN; that was just first class service! We also wanted to convey our appreciation & gratitude to the housekeeping staff who cleaned our 3 pairs of hiking boots for free which were all muddied from our hike to TN. She did a fantastic job with them, all came back to our room spanking clean! On our final breakfast morning, we met & chatted with your Asst Rest Mgr, Tashi. He was such a friendly and jovial guy. Enjoyed very much our encounter. He also packed us a box of pastries for us to take our journey back to our home country. So very nice of him. It is small gestures like these that differentiate between a real 5-star resort with the rest of the pack! Well done LM! We only wished we could have more time in LM to enjoy the resort and its facilities.
