Leonardo Royal Hotel Köln Am Stadtwald

Our room was super comfortable and quite large and spacious. The bartender was supercomdating the restaurant was pretty good for the price point. Only reason i'm giving it a four is I was given a parking card for the two days, assumed as it was not mentioned at check-in that it was, free, to ensure only guest used the lot. Then I found out when I went to check out, was being charged 20 euros a day. Was not included in the room. Pro tip park on the street is free.

The staff are great in all areas. they give it their all. Its hard to leave a positive remark about this hotel as its run down, aged and needs an urgent upgrade. Starting from the outside, during day time, hotel looks like a Eastern European Government building from 1988. At night this view is even worse as the red neon lights, gives one other negative images. Rooms need upgrade. Lobby and reception need upgrade. Terrace needs upgrade. There is no other hotel with such a location (with lake view ) in cologne, why not transform this hotel into the best hotel in the city ? Whatever the reason for the owner for not investing in this hotel - i think they need to rethink their ideas. What you have is a diamond in the rough.

The downside: Booked a hotel for a night from April 5th to 6th. As we would get to the hotel around 2 am on the 5th and it is an odd time to check in, the hotel was contacted through booking.com, and confirmation that we can check in between 1-2am was confirmed. when we arrived to hotel on 5th at around 2 am , we were told we do not have a reservation, etc. we only got into the room at 3 am. Once we woke up, we went to speak to the reception staff in the morning, where it turned out our booking was moved by the staff from 5 to 6 to the 4th to the 5th of April. We had to pay for an extra night, although there has been confirmation by hotel staff that our check-in time is accepted On the positive side: If you like a quieter environment the location of the hotel is good and the nature around is beautiful. I would definitely recommend having dinner there as the food and view was amazing. Bed were comfy and bathroom spacious enough although the soundproofing could be improved.
