Great location for ascending the Grand Ballon from the most beautiful side. Romantic hotel in traditional Alsace style. Jacuzzi rooms are great. High quality, good value restaurant with friendly service. Cozy bar. Minuses are the expensive breakfast (good but in no way worth 28 Euro/head) and the lack of outdoor seating (summertime but if seated there you’d be in an ugly white plastic “wedding tent” with an unkept lawn in front). Hotel is undergoing significant upgrades/renovation to its pool and Spa area, which seems about 2/3s done (July ‘25); already looks nice but end result should be great (we did not have time to try the new spa unfortunately). Overall a great base for visiting Alsace or as stopover to Switzerland or Italy.
Personal speaks french. More is problematic. Quiet place far outside. Very good SPA. Restaurant okay. Breakfast very good - on weekends. Bar closes early.
Worst hotel we have ever been to. This hotel was our choice for 1 night on the way down to italy ONLY because of their spa facilities, we wanted to relax and enjoy the next morning sunny warm weather until departure time. After (!) you have paid the room price you are suddenly asked to leave a mandatory deposit of 230 euros which was higher the the room price for a night. This was very unprofessional first of all- not to mention deposit before checking in. Upon arrival they only direct you where to go and don’t suggest no help with luggage. The room is outdated, especially some furniture and bathroom needs an update. Spiders in bathroom added to the charm. Water provided is of poor taste. The carpet of the room is red, and it colored my cashmere white socks immediately into bright red after only 10 minutes (!) in the room before getting to bed cause it was already late. You ask us to pay an outstanding price for deposit while your amenities ruin our clothes? They told us check out is at 11:30 and since hotel is full we can’t use the spa, but we can stay and use other facilities. In reality the spa was absolutely empty, few people in the pool. My husband and baby had to leave the pool anyway. We went then to get a coffee up on the terrace to enjoy the sun at least there. I was trying to order vegan milk cappuccino but waiter couldn’t understand me, really how hard is to learn a bit of English just to serve some drinks and food? After accepting order, I come back in 5 minutes to no drinks provided just to hear that bar and terrace is actually closed now and we have to move inside to restaurant space with no tables outside. All in all we were basically pushed out of ALL the space where we could stay, the receptionist was rude and to my wonder what is this horrible service the reply was literally a cold phrase “it is normal you can’t stay after check out time”. The fact that im pregnant and our baby is 4 and very well behaved, and we only have to stay until around 1 or 2 pm, didn’t make a care in them. Dear staff, we travelled half the world and in any hotel we have NEVER been asked to leave facilities on the day of check out, NEVER, it is normal practice everywhere for clients to stay in hotels until their transfer time to airport and etc. Rude, impolite, poor service, no care for your clientele whatsoever. Only thanks to restaurant manager lady for finally bringing our struggled coffees up on terrace after I raised my voice. I hope the barista didn’t spit in them. Spa is very nice, also nice walking paths nearby in forest, but who cares, when the hotel is a joke!
