Lijiang Gemmer Hotel

If you happen to be in Yunnan, this is the hotel to stay at. You can meet Mr. Jason He for tea or beer and plan your trip to Lijiang and/or Shangri-La (Shangri-La). You can also communicate with him in advance and he will tailor a Yunnan trip for you according to your budget. His advice, scam prevention tips, itinerary planning, and even last-minute ticket grabbing are all great! Thanks to him, I was able to arrange a two-day trip at the last minute to see my first snow in my life at the must-see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. (As a foreigner, you must book this trip a week before the scheduled date.) The hotel is only a 2-minute walk from Lijiang Old Town, which is not far from the old town with inconvenient transportation, which means you can take a Didi taxi to deliver your luggage to the door of the hotel. They may not serve breakfast anymore, but there are all kinds of affordable breakfasts on that street alone. Follow his recommendation and check out the stalls at the end of the street. You can buy a variety of Pu'er tea (a local specialty), mushrooms, and rose petal cookies at a very good price! 10 rose petal cookies for 25 yuan, it's a bargain! To be honest, you are in a small town, so don't expect too much and accept some minor flaws because that's the atmosphere of the old town.

Very good boutique hotel at the periphery of the center of the Old town Lijiang. An advantage for picking this hotel is you won't need to drag your luggages around Old town looking for your hotel in the heart of the old town ( Lijiang Old town center does not allow public cars to access their roads). Very comfortable. The decorations and furnishing is modern but full of wooden accent to keep the old town feeling but with a modern twist. They also provide washing machine for guests to wash their clothes. Amenities are excellent as it is new. Highly recommended!

Lijiang Gemmer Hotel is a definite must stay. Exceptional service aside, the hotel offers a warm, homely atmosphere like no other. As soon as we arrived, the staff immediately helped us with our baggage. The check in process is efficient and hassle free (the staff even pushed our stay one day ahead as we had booked our room for the wrong day, they did this with no extra surcharge.) The staff are experts on all the tourist sites, locations and hotspots in the city. They were able to seamlessly draw up a time efficient and broad encompassing itienery for our 5 day stay in Lijiang where we went horse riding, shopping in the Old Town, rowing on Lugu Lake and exploring the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The hotel even arranged for drivers to take us to and from all the destinations, which saved us a lot of effort and stress. Food and accomodation costs were also all encompassed in the booking fee. Apart from the fantastic service and warmth from the staff, the hotel also offers complimentary breakfast during the stay. The food is splendid, and made by one of the in-house cooks employed by the hotel. There is a broad selection, including the famous Yunnan noodles, porridge, meat dishes, vegetables, as well as coffee and tea. This broad variety is sure to leave all taste buds satisfied. This Hotel is impeccably designed, both interior and exterior. The interior features an elegant and spacious lobby space, complete with tea tables and areas to sit in while waiting for cabs. Upstairs, there is also a communal relaxing space, with botanical adornments and wood panels, giving the space an intimate yet open atmosphere. The hallways are built in a more traditional Chinese style, featuring lanterns and beautiful traditional windows. Other facilities include a cycling machine, washing machine, drying racks and an immense selection of teas to choose from, which the staff will kindly brew for you. The hotel is situated right next to the old town 古城、which is an extremely popular tourist destination, where there is a myriad of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and stalls. It is also around a 20 min drive to the Lijiang train station. The rooms are also excellent. Not only are the beds beautifully designed, there is also a tv, air conditioning, wifi, block out curtain drapes, and a very modern and spacious bathroom. There is also very minimal noise distractions, unlike other hotels within the old town, which could potentially be more noisy. Overall, I can’t think of any cons for this hotel. Their service is superior to any other hotel I have been to, the staff are helpful, warm and friendly, and the rooms were comfortable and a pleasure to stay in. The people in the hotel treat you more like family rather than guests, and will even offer personal tours of the Old Town if time allows. If you want to experience Lijiang in comfort whilst also making a connection with locals, Lijiang Gemmer hotel is the one for you.
