Metung is a glorious part of the planet. Spent two days enjoying the are and the beautiful walking and views. Metung Pub is a must visit and a coffee in the town square enjoying the lakeside views are another must.

Metung is a magical place. I spent most of my childhood holidays there. I returned for Family reasons and chose to stay at The Moorings. The Moorings is conveniently located 5mins walk from the Metung Hotel and other services/shops. Sadly, the Moorings feels old. I think it is time to move on from the instant coffee fingers (with awful tea, the only free ammenity in the apartment). I dont think an Espresso machine is a big ask these days at over $400/night for two bedrooms. The receptionist was as disinterested as a house brick. There was no "where have you come from?" or "How was the drive?" or "Welcome!" She was more interested in making sure other members of my group arrived before reception closing-time so she could head off. (Yes, I got a call to come pick up her key). She could have left it with me as she had all my details. Anyway, an over officious receptionist is not going to effect my experience. Love Metung, not in love with the Moorings and the front-of-office has to go.

I tried to book two-night accommodation, but the person on the other end was rude. Unfortunately, he couldn’t understand my accent, even though I spelt the letters slowly several times. He insulted me by saying that it was difficult to understand me. This is the first time I’ve encountered such a problem, considering I have lived in this part of the world for over 20 years. I’ve travelled extensively and have never had an issue with anyone not understanding my accent. Because he couldn’t comprehend what I was saying, he suggested that I was not welcome to stay there. I consider this as discrimination. I just booked at 5 Knots with no issue with their staff understanding my accent whatsoever!! I'm hoping the phone conversation with the staff member from The Moorings was recorded, and the management can review it and provide extra training to their staff!!
