Fabulous hotel with lovely (Laura Ashley inspired) rooms. Lots of history, antiques and lovely food. Menu a little limited. More like staying in someone’s home than a hotel. Loved the TV over the bath!

It’s a very pretty hotel, don’t get me wrong but do not bring anyone who is disabled here. My family here with a 90 year old grandmother, expecting a full accessible room on the lower ground and handle bars in the bathroom, as that’s what it said on the website and booking.com however that is not what happened. There was no lifts, so wheelchair users us not available here AND NO HANDLE BARS FOR ELDERLY USER. don’t promote something so serious on your website and then not have it.

Beautiful building, but that's all. We stayed at this hotel recently and while the setting is beautiful and the period property itself has a lot of charm, the overall experience was deeply disappointing due to the lack of basic standards and poor service. The staff, who appeared to be mostly teenagers, were clearly untrained and left to manage entirely on their own. They were polite but overwhelmed, and there was no sign of experienced supervision to guide them. This unfortunately reflected in almost every part of our stay. Our room had not been cleaned properly—there was a sock from a previous guest left behind, which really set the tone. Amenities were minimal: no toothpaste, no shower cap, and one of the bathrobes provided was shredded and looked as if it had been chewed. The shower never got particularly warm, a lamp didn’t work, and the television looked like something out of the early 2000s. We were told milk would be brought to the room, but it never arrived. Dinner service was chaotic. We were seated at 6:30pm and after waiting until 8:30pm without receiving our dessert, we had to actively seek someone out to complain—something that was difficult given how rushed and understaffed the place seemed. Breakfast didn’t fare much better. There were no eggs available, and the pre-packaged croissants were left uncovered with a fly crawling across them. It didn’t inspire much confidence. The grounds, while once lovely I’m sure, looked neglected and poorly maintained, which was a shame given the potential of the property. This hotel could be truly special with the right management and attention to detail, but unfortunately, it’s currently far from meeting even basic expectations.
