Great stay! Just passing through on our travels, found this hotel and really enjoyed it! Very small twin beds and they’re pretty hard, but we were very tired. The convenience of the lock keeper being right next door we grabbed dinner and breakfast which was lovely! A walk along the canal after dinner was delightful! Would stay here again!

My wife and I were both made welcome from the start. Staff were brilliant, the chambermaid on the 1st floor was excellent, she sorted out towels for us among other things, I'm annoyed that I never got her name. Peter was very helpful especially when the key card didn't work but he got to the root of the problem and sorted it. I would certainly stay again if I was in the area and would recommend it to friends.

We were travelling to the area for a 2 night stay for an U13S girls football tournament nearby. About 35 of us booked family rooms as we were travelling with 17 children most aged 12-17 and 2 younger children. We were disappointed to be abruptly told on Friday night that children are not allowed in the bar OR outside the pub or hotel after 9pm despite us all being residents of your hotel. This is NOT publicised on your Marstons website or the Lock Keeper website and we would NOT have booked had we known about this policy. Your manager originally said it was a Marstons policy but there is nothing on the website and one of our group rang another 3 Marstons pubs with rooms and was told this was not their policy. You should be ensuring that this policy is visible before booking - not on arriving! As a group of 35 people spending money on 2 nights accommodation, eating there on Friday night and drinking with you both nights only to be told that half our group is not welcome after 9pm was quite a shock. To also be unwelcome outside in the beer garden (as our group offered to move outside to supervise) was also a surprise. Do you really expect family groups with pre-teens and late teens with us to be tucked up in bed at 9pm? Madness. I was the organisers of the group and felt responsible that the group had an unexpected curfew (not only the 9pm no children rule but also the bar stopping serving at 10.30pm). This is our 4th annual tournament weekend away and we've never encountered such a desire to turn away business. I understand that the rule is because of a condition on your Premises Licence - but your manager couldn't show me that either as it was apparently on the back and it was screwed onto the wall. Very disappointed with this aspect of our stay and it would put us off staying at a Marstons pub/lodge in the future which is a shame as we were otherwise happy with the rooms, food, drink etc. I look forward to hearing from you about the lack of any published policy on your website/pre-booking. Thanks Helen
