Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa

We booked a spa day and afternoon tea for our 1st year wedding anniversary. The facilities were lovely and treatments were very relaxing! However, the best part was the service from the duty manager; Emily Stock. She made our experience so so special when she found out what we were celebrating and made us a personalised anniversary dessert and treated us to a glass of fizz! What a lovely touch and we will definitely be returning and recommending to ours. Thank you very much xxx

Lovely hotel and spa, as long as you don't mind traffic noise as this hotel is flanked by 2 main roads adjoining a roundabout. Our room was lovely and spacious and very nice and tidy. Housekeeping was excellent during our stay however, our air conditioning didn't work which I reported to reception but, at the time of writing, still isn't working and this is our 3rd of a 4 night stay. Grounds and facilities are well presented and plenty of parking sometimes in obscure places within the secure grounds. It is a nice relaxing place to visit, but if a bus is required then take note they aren't very frequent so plan in advance.

I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years, but Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa ranks among the absolute worst. What I experienced was not just disappointing — it was appalling. Let’s start with the room: • The air conditioning didn’t work in the middle of summer. The room was unbearably hot and uncomfortable. When I raised this with staff, nothing meaningful was done. • The TV was ancient and completely non-functional — might as well have been a decorative box. • The entire room was outdated, worn, and gave off the vibe of a cheap roadside motel. Peeling paint, scratched furniture, musty smells. Nothing like the polished photos shown online. But here’s the kicker — when I politely raised my concerns and requested a refund for a clearly substandard stay, the hotel flatly refused, offering no compensation, no apology, not even basic courtesy. For a hotel that charges premium prices and claims to offer a “luxury” experience, this was an absolute joke. I’ve stayed in budget inns with better service and far cleaner, more functional rooms. Don’t be fooled by the branding or photos. This hotel is run-down, dishonest, and completely out of touch with what guests deserve. Save your money, avoid the stress, and go literally anywhere else.
