Had a lovely couple of days here while attending a family wedding nearby. Rooms are spacious, really good breakfast. A special mention for Fiona on reception who sorted out a level access room for my elderly mother .
A Pleasant Stopover at Macdonald Cardrona Hotel My family and I spent one night at the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel during our drive from Edinburgh to Cardiff, and it proved to be an excellent choice for our journey. After a long flight, the hotel was perfectly positioned about an hour’s drive from Edinburgh Airport, making it an ideal first stop without having to navigate too far into unfamiliar territory while still jet-lagged. The hotel struck the perfect balance between comfort and convenience for travelers passing through the Scottish Borders. The staff immediately impressed us with their professional and welcoming approach. From check-in to departure, the team was attentive and helpful, making our brief stay feel genuinely hospitable after our tiring travel day. It’s clear that customer service is a priority here. The hotel itself is well-maintained throughout, with clean, comfortable rooms and public areas that feel fresh and inviting. Everything appeared to be in good working order, which is always reassuring when you’re looking for a reliable place to rest during a long journey, especially when you’re already tired from flying. One of the unexpected highlights was our visit to nearby Peebles village, just a few minutes from the hotel. The timing couldn’t have been better – we were blessed with beautiful weather that made exploring the area a real treat. The walking tracks around the hotel and village are genuinely lovely, offering scenic routes that were perfect for stretching our legs after hours of traveling. The location works particularly well for travelers on the Edinburgh to Cardiff route, providing a comfortable midway point without feeling too far off the beaten path. The proximity to Edinburgh Airport also makes it convenient for those arriving by air and wanting to ease into their Scottish adventure gradually. & A particularly useful feature for modern travelers is the EV charging station on-site. This amenity adds real value for electric vehicle owners Thank you
Lovely views, we stayed in a deluxe king room. Pool facilities clean. Downside - bed was dirty all down the side with a hole in it. Breakfast took 50 mins to be served and they forgot twice to bring it to us. Also forgot our tea and coffee one morning. Overall okay. Area is nice but staff could be more attentive.
