Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

Our stay at the hotel was exceptionally pleasant thanks to its excellent location by the lake, close to all the attractions, and its high level of safety and security. The restaurant and bar staff were incredible and made our stay even more enjoyable. The only downside was the outdated furniture in the rooms and the limited selection of coffee and vegetables at the breakfast buffet. I believe adding a coffee machine would make the experience even better.

I stayed at this hotel from the 1st to the 3rd of August with my two children. I’ll start with the positives: The location is fantastic,, I absolutely loved it! The hotel lounge offers a beautiful view of the lake, and enjoying an afternoon tea there is truly special. It’s also very conveniently located, close to many restaurants, pubs, and bars. Breakfast was okay,, not amazing, but decent enough to start the day and the service was slow but acceptable. Now for the negatives: When we arrived to check in, there were two ladies at reception. One referred us to the other, who immediately seemed upset and said to her colleague, Did you refer them to me?They then started arguing in front of us, which felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Our room was okay but not great. The toilet didn’t flush properly, which was frustrating. There’s also no air conditioning, which could be uncomfortable in summer,, although luckily the weather was fine during our stay. Service in the lounge was disappointing. I went to order afternoon tea to enjoy the view, but after bringing the food, they forgot the actual tea. I had to remind them three times, and even then, the tea only arrived after about half an hour, without any apology. When I said “thank you,” the bartender didn’t even respond, which felt rude and unwelcoming. Overall, the location and views are wonderful, but the service and some aspects of the facilities could be improved.

We booked this hotel on the occasion our first anniversary. 1) The hotel is located at a very beautiful location with lake view. Even the view from breakfast venue is really amazing. 2) The room and washroom are spacious but seriously lacks decent facilities as per the amount paid. 3) The breakfast is good with a lovely lake facing view and adjacent to the garden. The breakfast / restaurant staff are very welcoming. 4) A good SPA facility which includes Swimming Pool, Sauna, Steam and Ice room. Treatment is additionally charged. 5) Hotel does not provide any special discount or offer on customers special occasion like Anniversary, Birthdays etc. So forget it, it’s additionally over charged. A good hotel which focus on customers satisfaction and relation provides such facilities free of cost. 6) Few of the reception staff are not at all welcoming and their response seem to quiet rude and uninterested. 7) No air conditioning in room. Overall my stay was good, we enjoyed the Lake District with scenic views from hotel. But WILL NOT RECOMMEND it as it’s highly overpriced, facilities are not at all good for the price you pay and not a good option if you are looking for a getaway. Regards
