Rooms are appalling, the "parking" if you can call it that is dangerous and substandard at best. When we first entered reception it was empty and took ringing 4 times to get a woman who acted completely disinterested and non apologetic. The bed was lumpy the rooms smelt and lacked basic features you would expect from a 4 star e.g safe and fridge. Meaning any valuables we felt we had to hide or carry on our person as anyone can enter the hotel until they randomly lock the door and abandon reception. Our key was not functioning and the door appeared broken after returning from a night out coming back at 10 (when reception should still be open) we found the number disconnected and had to get help from the Indian restaurant bellow the hotel to access our room.
We stayed here a few years ago and the experience was terrible - when we arrived with two small kids, the door was locked and there was no answer when we rang the bell. We waited and called the mobile number but no luck. After 1 hour of waiting and trying to reach the owners we were able to slip into the hotel with another guest and could at least put the kids to sleep on the sofa in the lobby. When finally someone arrived and let us in, there were only three beds prepared instead of four. The promised breakfast buffet was closed and we got an lousy excuse of packaged stuff instead. Terrible experience.
The rooms had poor sound insulation and was on top of a noisy bar. Situated along a busy high Street, opposite a bus station, so lots of lights and noise even throughout the night. The room had poorly made shutters which would not close properly, causing light from the bus stop the other side of the road to cover the beds in light. The bed sheets, duvet cover and pillows smelt of nicotine and were itchy. Lots of drunk and noisy people in the area shouting, screaming, and kicking things around the high Street area all throughout the night and early morning. Managed about 2 hours sleep the one night i stayed there, which i consider to be an achievement all things considered. I then had work the next morning, and had to drive for 3 hours back home after a day's work. Would only recommend someone stay there if i really wanted them to hate me the morning after. In short, avoid like the plague. I have no clue how this can be listed as 4 stars.
