Malerwinkel Hotel

Booked here to spend an evening at the Mediterana Spa, which Google indicated was a 30-minute walk. What I didn’t notice is that walk is ENTIRELY downhill!!! A STEEP hill! Which is fine going TO the spa, but I quickly rethought my plans to walk back at the end of the evening. (Especially after sweating and snoozing for a few hours!) Thankfully, you can catch the local train at Neuenweg to Bensberg - the train does most of the work for you on the way back. The hotel itself is super charming. The girl at reception had superb English and was very friendly at check-in, showing me to my room. (Not sure I would have ever found it!) My room was simple with a single bed and bathroom en suite - at a very good price. Breakfast was only 9€, but I had to leave early to catch a train. The town of Bensberg is an interesting mix of traditional fachwerke and modern brutalist architecture - like many resort towns from the 70s and 80s. But since the U-1 goes right from Bensberg to center Köln, it’s an excellent alternative for getting away from the city, especially if you love a good sauna! (See my review of Mediterana.) 😍 I look forward to returning for a longer stay with my wife. 😊

Very nice hotel, cute and very clean rooms. Delicious breakfast with fresh tasty bread. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Nice place to stay. Very friendly staff. Rooms are ok, a bit small and some rooms with small single bed... But always very clean with a sweat and a bottle of water for your arrival. Good breakfast for 9 eur.
