Mamalu is definitely a studio I would recommend. The studio has everything you need for a visit to Naples. The rooms are really clean and water is complementary. Staff members have been really eager to help. Especially outstanding was Lucia, who always went the extra mile and was very welcoming. Many thanks (to her).
There are 5 rooms in this building and the building across the street has more. Both have elevators. My Queen room is very spacious with coffee machine and mini fridge. There is a very odd bathroom design, a really big window in the shower looks directly into the bedroom. There is no tinting, or curtain, or window film. I’m traveling solo, but it could be awkward for other people. Other than that, it’s a very comfortable stay. The staff should check the clock in the rooms to make sure the guests don’t get woken up by a previous guests alarm setting. I thought unplugging it would work, but that alarm woke me up two mornings in a row. I did not care for the foam pillows.
Mamalu is set inside an old Italian block and serviced by a lift that's probably hundreds of years old given how finnicky it was. There were weird rules in terms of when it operated, which was really inconvenient if you're the type of person who values flexibility like me. The lobby and rooms were refurbished. Given it was set inside what felt like an incredibly old building, the layout was very awkward with steps in unexpected places. If you have mobility issues, I would give this place a hard pass. The low rating is due to the fact that I was assaulted outside the building and asked to leave, but the owner wouldn't refund me for the days I haven't stayed. I'd return to Naples as there's more to explore, but next time would make sure I travel with a male companion. However I wouldn't stay in Mamalu again.
